If we intervened in Iraq because Saddam Hussein was an evil dictator who was killing his own people, then why aren't we compelled to act in Darfur when there's a mass genocide going on in the region? If we value life and wish to protect all life, then the time to act in Darfur is NOW!

1. Neither the UN nor the EU is taking any leadership role in helping in Darfur. Cannot anybody do anything without the US leading?
2. The Sudanese government has stated that any peacekeepers that come into the country will be considered invaders, and their presence an act of war.
3. What makes anybody think that the same jihadist fight against the US wouldn't happen in Darfur, too? Do people not realize that there are a lot of Muslims in and around Sudan?
4. If we do, will the liberals all run down to their recruiters and join the military? Bwahahahah!

it's a tough call.. I want to take care of our own before we start policing the world... but on the other hand you can't just allow blatant genocide.... the only thing I can say for sure is that our troops would be better utilized by going to Darfur than by staying in Iraq.
Edit: Genocide and Civil War are two different things. Darfur is a Genocide, Iraq is a Civil War.

What do we have to gain from going? Are we going to stop the bloodshed or just delay it? These Muslim extremists seem intent on killing anyone that disagrees with them, and they are backed by the government in Sudan. I wouldn't only go to Darfur if we had a clear military objective, and I'm not sure what is our purpose in being there.

Absolutely, not! I am a bit of a strategist (I play several types of wargames) and no matter how strong you can be, you do have limitations. We are fighting two wars, on several fronts, and to take on another fight would be disasterous. The United States found out in WWII, that fighting in two theaters of operation, was very hard to do. In Europe alone, we had several fronts to handle, and alot of them did not work. So, Nicole, I say unless we plan on depleting our military might to the point of exhaustion, we send no more troops anywhere. Peace!

yes we should based on the reasons we went in to Iraq that we would no longer allow this to go on. If we do not and face what ever the left has to say so be it. Right is right and wrong is wron. And If we take a stand than it must be the same form each.
Yes.

And I thought the UN was doing such a bang up job. If we did send troops there, could you imagine the outcry if injury or worse occurred? Why waste time doing that. Let the UN do it.
