The crystal ball denotes championships. Every coach signs off on it before every season. The only thing they proved that year was that USC are the biggest whiners in all of the NCAA. Crystal balls - LSU=1: USC=1. END OF DISCUSSION!!

There was a flaw in the polls basically and it had to be re written to pacify the PAC 10's lack of overall strength of scheduling top to bottom so they wouldn't feel so left after (USC) ran the table against those bums all year round for nothing, so they basically put more "human" input into the system to help them out in the west who were complaining.

So basically LSU would have whips USC's %#$ instead of OU and the sears trophy (or crystal ball as you put it) would still be in Baton Rouge...it would just have USC as the loser instead of OU.

USC fan should be grateful my version didn't take place. Enjoy your 2003 plaque hanging from the walls.

They have a SPLIT-CHAMPIONSHIP with LSU from the year they were rated FIRST in BOTH polls(coach's poll and AP poll at that time) but they were put THIRD by the BCS computers. They WON their game and so they kept first in the AP. LSU won the National Championship game so the Coaches HAD to put LSU as number one as part of the BCS agreement.

ADD: the only thing proven THAT year was how crooked the BCS WAS. That is why the AP Poll is NO LONGER PART OF THE BCS POLL. The BCS never actually got the AP's permission and when they saw how full of crap the BCS was(let's see a team that lost their Conference Championship got in the Title game, I think that was the same year, a team that leads the AP poll AND Coach's poll is THIRD in the BCS) they said STOP USING OUR POLL. That's why you now have that new poll thing with the coach's poll.
To justwondering there is a difference between #1 and #2 in the poll. In the AP poll USC finished #1 in '03 NOT #2. That is why it was a SPLIT CHAMPIONSHIP. This has been going on since the two polls were used. The only difference in that now the Coach's poll is run by the BCS agreement for the FINAL vote. So when you win the AP poll and are #2 in the Coachs poll it is a SPLIT TITLE. They had split titles BEFORE the BCS and that is why it is STILL recognized.

It was a split title. They've been doing it for years so why complain now. LSU and SC both get credit for a national title. It's actually become unusual when the championship isn't split. It will continue that way until they finally hold an honest to goodness playoff like all the other divisions in NCAA football do. Hey Terry C did Palmer play in 1978? Because that's the last time SC won a recognized national championship before 03 and 04. If anyone got screwed it was Auburn in 04. 13 and 0 and no national title at all. That sucks.. ..

USC and LSU shared the title. The AP awarded the championship for many years. The AP is as important as any other method of determinign champs. The AP saw how flawed the BCS system was an did the right thing and awarded USC its share of the NC. The NC has been split many many times. It was split with USC and LSU move on. I can't believe people are still bitter about a split title.

In fact that USC team that won the AP title was one of the greatest teams in the history of CFB they had so much talent now in the NFL that it is crazy.

not to imply hating on any school but more on the BCS.. wasn't the point of the BCS that there wouldn't be any more split championships?.. wasn't that the promise to fans made years ago? the idea was a Championship game to determine the title.. LSU won that game.. then USC got the media vote I believe (most of whom are in NY and Los Angeles (major media markets).. and never played football.. nor coached football.. one guy actually according to legend wasn't even filling out his own ballots just having an intern or assistant fill them out for them).. the point being I don't see why anyone claims a title from that organization (BCS Committee).. if I were a coach and won that trophy.. I'd bust it on Nat'l Television.. we need a playoff system in college football.. or at LEAST a +1 game

in 2004 USC split the championship after beating Michigan in the Rose Bowl. They finished atop the AP poll but LSU was ranked first in the Coaches Poll.

They were undisputed champs in 1972.

They have also had 2 other occasions where they won the Coaches poll but lost the AP poll.

This is for just wondering, you're stupid. Read what you wrote. How can Auburn claim a share if they were #2 in the ap polls? USC was ranked #1 in the ap polls the year LSU won the BCS. You don't make any sense.

USC got a share of the National Title the year LSU half won. USC actually has 11 National Titles so maybe you should check again

The last time i check, the crystal ball is not the only championship in college football trophy if you know anything about college football past of how they crown the championship team. Before the BCS crystal ball, the AP voters has always given their own championship trophy since college football start in the old day. In fact that how they used to do it. And in today how they crown the championship team, you got the AP voters, the AP championship trophy and the BCS trophy, get your facts straight my man. Hey justwondering are you nuts, to get the co-national title, the AP voters have to vote for you, i hate ignorant peoples cry about championship and don't know what they're talking about. Oh stop crying foul SEC fans get over it, and peoples are right about SEC, that they like to hype about their conference and claim title went they're not entitle to lol.

They shared the title with LSU when they beat Michigan and LSU beat Oklahoma, like 3 years ago. So they have 2 in the last couple years
