SO my cat and I are extremley close - shes a really good cat, most of the time and meows and meows - such a chatter bean.

This morning, I was sleeping, my sister wakes me up and was like 'your baby brought home some breakfast'!! I walk and looked outside, and right by the welcome mat, there was a dead bird, with a feather in my cats mouth, wanting to come inside.
I gave her a spanking, but I was mentioning to my mother, how if I was a cat, I would never show my owners in front of them what I caught. But my mother said, its because my cat was proud and had pride, and wanted her mother (me) to be proud of her. She said after I spanked her she probably got her feelings hurt (thinking that the present/bird she tried to give me, I didnt like apparently) so do you think its true? That my cat, roseabell, was sitting in pride, with bird wide open so I can see it, and give her kudos? lol

DO NOT SPANK YOUR CAT. That is really mean and not a good way to handle any behavior issues with it.

Cats bring home dead prey (birds, lizards, mice) often to their owners. Its pride and a present for you. That's what cats do.

Why would you spank your cat? Cat's are hunter's and your cat is a "birder" Not all cats are able to catch birds, so you really should be proud of your cat. Your mum was right, your cat brought home the bird as a "present" to you. She expected you to give her praise. Please don't get upset at an animal for doing what comes naturally. Can you imagine if your mum spanked you for breathing?

Rosabell loves you ^.^

Cats are very independent creatures and as much as we consider them to be our pets, it's important to understand that they see it the other way around. Cat's can't go out and buy presents, so they must go out to find them. And to a cat, bringing home dinner is just instinctual. They don't know that we think it's weird/gross.

Go cuddle her, say "thank you" and apologize for spanking her cause you didn't understand the gift. And next time she brings you something (no matter how bizarre a present it might be), just give her a nuzzle, take her back inside...and remove it when she's not looking ;)

That should most definitely be considered a gift from your cat! We had a cat that would bring us "gifts" all the time (mice, moles, birds) from outside. She would purr the whole time too! It may seem disgusting to you but it's a cat's instinct to hunt and that was something that your cat was very proud of! Give your cat some extra loving now and praise it for the next treat it brings you!

My cat was nice enough to present me with a half dead mouse right when I was sitting on the couch drinking hot coffee. Plopped her butt right up on the couch beside me & dropped the sucker about 8 inches from my leg. Oh, good girl! No, that's not quite the expression that came out of my mouth.

Cats bring their owners dead animals as gifts and this does not deserve a spanking. You should have told her she was a good girl and threw away the bird.

My cat when I was confined to my room because of an open wound and the cat wasn't allow in, he brought me a dead mouse to show me he loved me and wanted to see me. He got lots of lovin for it.

your cat loves you soooo much she went hunting for you wow!!! she brought you a give of love. Why cuz she cant go to the mall and shop. I have had cats bring home mice, birds, snakes, squirrles, cricket bugs, leaves, baby bunnies. the list goes on I always give them a lovey and put them and their prey outside and yes I let them keep their kill. They worked for it.

That's a cats job/purpose. They are born with that instinct, so they can survive not in a non-domesticated environment.
So, you should be proud of your cat....she obviously cares enough about you to share.
