My computer runs on 512 MB of memory and the tech guy told me that is enough and I all need is a bigger hard drive to hold all my songs and computer games. So I'm wonder if 250 GB - 350 GB be enough. I think one song equals about 5 MB and 1,000 MB equal 1 GB. I do have Windows XP.

Let's do the math:
Assume every of your songs are about 5 Mb

a) 5 Mb x 20,000 songs = 100,000 Mb
b) Conversion: 5 Mb/100,000 Mb = 1 GB/ ? GB >>> 100 GB.
c) If you get a 250 GB hard drive, then you are left with about 150 GB. However, if you buy a 350 GB hard drive, then you end up having a lot more, about 250 GB.
d) In conclusion, you will have enough buying either one. Now, it only depends how big are your game files. But, say 150 GB or 250 GB leftover (after 20,000 songs) is a lot of space to put A LOT of games.

To help I have a 350 Gig that's for my music only. I have allot of songs but it has used only 70 Gigs. I can play the music on my computer which is in My Music non stop for over a month straight. I know that Vids do take up more space.

well, the thing is you will need to determine the number of games that you will want to store on this hard disk. Many games that out today may take up more 5 gb or more. In addition, you will also need to take into account on the number of music and video that you may store in this hard disk too. Since you know that a song may equal 5mb, a video may take up to 1gb or two which depends on its video resolution. One thing to keep in mind is that 350gb may only last for another 3 years since the new terabyte hard disk is out. It looks like TB is the new "GB" .

Technically 1024 meg is one gig. If one song is around 5 meg than you will need approx 100 gig to store 20,000 songs. If you get a 250 gig drive that should leave you around 150 gig for games.

Its plenty, but depends how many and how big your games are.
20,000 songs would probably take up about 100 gb, leaving you with 150 for games. Most newer games can take 5 gb each or more, so it depends on how many games you have.

dude!!if the songs ur playing is mp3 then u can save 30.000 songs and it will take less than 100 GB...so if u buy 350 u can download all the songs on the world, but i suggest not doing that cuz maybe ur motherboard can't support it.but if u have 945 then it won't be a problem

It all depends on the size of the songs/files. If you have small files you can fit more of them. 250gb is a lot of storage. You can also move some of the files to "offline" storage like a usb jump drive. Then you just have to plug it in and listen. Plus you can carry it around to other PCs or other usb based products.

You never need to worry about the hard drive space. You almost never end up using it all up and you can buy an external hard drive for really low prices.
