It depends on the society. It is an offensive term in the United States, however Caribbean countries typically use the term "mulatto" to refer to someone of mixed black-white ancestry.

It’s not really meant to be offensive at all but some ignorant people who don’t actually know the meaning of the word will take offense because it’s easier to do so than to add another word to their small vocabulary. Mulatto is to Mixed race as Atlas is to a book of maps.

It can be a bit offensive when you consider the origin of the word. Mulatto and mule come from the same origin. As you probably know, a mule is a hybrid between a horse and a donkey and is usually sterile. Referring to someone as "mulatto" is a bit like calling them a mule.

Mulatto is in the dictionary and is not offensive. The "N" word is not and is considered an offensive word. That person who took offense to your question is the reason why there is racism in the world and hatred is created because of one misunderstanding. That word is better than being called "mutt" or "bosco".

At one time "*****" was an acceptable name but it finally became offensive to some and it was changed to African/American. Then it was too easy too offend because not all black people reign from Africa. It was then changed to just black. sigh.
If it changes again, would someone be kind enough to let me know? (Mulatto, mixed race, bi-racial)....a similar story.
And...if i somehow offended someone in this perfect "politically correct society", I apologize.

confident. it is the spanish version of the n-bomb for mixed human beings. it is literal translation is "mule", it somewhat is the combination of a horse and donkey. Now a lot of human beings will proclaim that mixed human beings could be happy with the word, or maybe contest my definition of the word. and that i'll ask, how a lot of those morons are actual "mixed" with something? And their answer could be comparable to the different from all and sundry claiming to appreciate what it ability to be mixed, and that they understand, even regardless of the indisputable fact that they have got probably by no ability met one. humorous isn't it? base line, it is left to interpretation. you % despite if it offends you or no longer. If offends me.

It really depends on the person and place that your are saying this. Most people I know would not get offended by this because I am in the northern part of the US where racism isn't common at all. If you were to say that for example in Texas maybe they might get offended as a defense for not knowing if it is racism or not.
