it's pretty sad really. india = 1 billion people. australia = 20 million people. i mean, i guess you can say australia is richer, but they are probably one of the nations that compared to population of country do exceedingly well in sports, and lets face it, indian cricket players get paid tons. australia is about 10 levels higher than india and with a MUCH MUCH MUCH smaller population in cricket. its also really sad how india sucks at all sports and theyre not even that great at cricket which is the only sport they have any hope in. its sad how they obsessively follow the tennis player sania mirza and every small tournament she plays because at 30 (sad) shes the highest ranked player in india. australia gives a lot more attention and excels at other sports as well. they seem to have the "good at sports" gene while india is the compete opposite.

australia isnt a country of cheats wtf you talking about, india has had way more incidents of things like match fixings so look whos talking.
so what if more english people go to australia? have you seen how obsessed india is with cricket? everywhere in the streets people are playing cricket, you dont see that obsession in australia. australia is also at least good at some other sports like they have ian thorpe for swimming. but srsly india has a much bigger population and they arent the growing power, more population = BAD b/c of overpopulation, which means more starvation. please do some RESEARCH before you go and make yourself look like an idiot.

o ya and to the thing about "more engineers/doctors from india." think about it this way, 1 in every thousands is an engineer/doctor in india. im sure the ratios are much better in australia.

ok first of all, don't listen to gay people who choose "cool person" as their nickname to try and paint a false image over the pathetic thing that they are. its true, india isnt good at sports. but we seem to be overlooking things that indians are really really good at. things like being superstitious like **** and smelling really disgusting and usually making me look bad. im indian, and im somewhat proud to be one, but i really think that most indian people make the rest of us look bad.

Its not the population of the country that matters. Its the unity, strenght and performance the players put up out there on the field AS A TEAM. They have to put in what is called TEAM EFFORT. Australia has that quality in its team, but India has it only on rare occassions. I feel that is the reason for India's poor performance and Australia being at the top.
But I see a few sparks of the quality I mentioned in the current Indian that played the test series in England. They showed that spirit. I think they might race everyone to the Twenty20 cup.
And I do support Dravid's decision to not to enfore a follow-on.

Probably this got to do with the mentality and attitude on how
you approach the sport. Indian culture is not to work hard and
smart. Once they have been selected into the team, they stay
there for ever completely in contrast to Aussies. Look at the
some youngsters, like Yuvi, Zaheer, Harbajan....all have
been reported to have attitude problems. Even when they are
doing good, they do not have the killer instinct, which
was clearly shown in the recently concluded 3rd test.
The next generation of Indians need to recognize the problem
and rectify them. Build the theme that they can do it and
encourage the youngsters and build confidence in them.
Positive attitude needs to be built within the player and then
as a team....
Another good example is Paes and Bhupathi....if they had
worked together they would have stayed on the top....instead
they play with other players. No team spirit, when things go
wrong point the fingers at others....These are all cultural
issues which are NOT and never addressed.
Coming back to Sania, she is doing OK and it is painful to
watch her game....she is really extreme....when she is good
she is really good and makes so many mistakes over and
over again.
Any players/sports person who tries to admit and learn from
their mistake and work on it, will win.....
Look at Djokovic, how well he played last week and since
1980s no one has beaten top 3 seeds to win(last one to
do so was Becker in 1989(?)).

i'm australian and have done extensive travel.
australia seems to love placing a huge emphasis on sport and being good at sport. loads of money gets pumped into it. more money = more opportunities for everyone to have a turn.
why this emphasis is not put into academia is anyone's guess. being australian when you are in a country that respects academia is embarrassing. great, our kids can kick a footy but they can't spell.
at the end of the day so what if australians are good at sport. it doesn't cure cancer. and note that the australian media only COVERS sport that australia is good at.
i'm fairly sure in india, the fact that they have one billion people to choose from means next to nothing if a large majority of those people live in squalor and have to struggle day to day. i'm certain being captain of the indian cricket team is not a dream for a young indian child that hasn't had a decent meal in a while.

I'm suprised on how racist some of you pro-indians are. could poor sportsmanship or an inferiority complex be to blame - grow up.
As for not being good at other sports check out the aussie medal tally at the olympics for the past 3 or 4. Not bad for a population of 20 million. Why dont you come here watch our sports and see what real fair passion is. Or would you rather worship a Pepsi salesman and then turn on him when he loses form?

India is a corrupt country and the selection of cricketers to represent the country are not the best players India has. Sania is not the best female tennis player in India but she is cute and a Muslim and that gives her advantage over other promising girls.

Australian domestic structure is far better than Indian domestic structure. Also they have great cricket Academy. From these academies they produce good players who can perform well in the international arena. Also there are not political problems in the cricket board and talented players always get the chance to play for their country.

HEY DANNY,
I DOUBT IF AUSTRALIA IS BETTER THAN INDIA IN CRICKET. THE INDIAN CRICKET INDIAN CRICKET TEAM HOWEVER MAY LOOSE MANY MATCHES TO THE AUSTRALIAN TEAM. YOU WOULD ASK WHY, THE ANSWER IS: HEAVY CORRUPTION AND RED TAPE IN THE INDIAN CRICKET BOARD. TO GET INTO THE TEAM IS VERY HARD AND THE LOUSY EXISTING PLAYER DO NOT WANNA GIVE UP THEIR POSITIONS (DUE TO THE MONEY). THEREFORE EXTREMELY TALENTED YOUNG PLAYERS DONT GET THE CHANCE. THATS WHY THE TEAM SUCKS!

Population has nothing to do for excellence in sports. It is all purely depending upon the efforts and initiative taken by the concerned administration to develop the game, spot talented players and groom them up. Unfortunatley India are lagging behind in these areas due to polkitics.

australia has much better bowlers than india, batting line up adequate from both sides, but bowling plays the big role which india doesent have. any team with good bowling attack can beat australia but oppositon should have batting line equalaint to australia, and pakistan could be one of that team
