Agriculture. Like fire, agriculture-the idea of deliberately planting seeds-was more of a discovery than an invention. It totally transformed us from hunter gatherers to the inheritors of all civilization could provide.

Are you asking about a 'totally new' invention, or a 'sub-invention'? I'd say that the most EXCITING invention since the 'discovery of fire' (it was DISCOVERED, not 'invented') was the computer. I'm old enough to remember when a 'computer' filled a HUGE ROOM, and could do only 'basic mathematical calculations.' That is 'all' it was for MANY YEARS until the 'invention' of the silicon chip ... and now there are 'computers' in nearly EVERY home in the world, even in the very 'backward' third world countries. This makes our world much 'smaller' ... but also much LARGER because we can 'talk' (either by typing, or by voice recognition) with ANYONE in the world. The NEWS uses computers, so we can 'see' disasters' immediately ... and we can see the 'real people' who are going through the disasters, and feel more empathy, and more disgust ... and we can also 'see and experience' other inventions ... and even the cell phone comes from the 'invention' of the computer.

Fire is not an invention. At best it could be called a discovery, for those who existed without knowledge how to make it. It was not assembled by human beings, but has always existed as it is. The same holds for how to make it ...
If you are a believer of modern Western mythology (big bang & evolution theory) this might be difficult to understand, since that is based on the unproven assumption that everything develops from primitive to advanced. Vedic knowledge shows that something advanced can only originate from something that is equally or more advanced.
Earth, Water, Fire and Air are the 4 basic gross material elements according to Bhagavad-gita 7.4, the essence of the ancient Vedic scriptures.
It is interesting to see that Fire is described as an element, and not as a process, like in modern 'science'.
Note that Einstein realized that matter is just a different form of energy (E=mc2).
The most exciting discovery after Fire for any person, might be that within eternity, the potential for all intelligence, life and consciousness that we perceive, is already present within Absolute Reality (God), and that neither Fire was invented nor we evolved from dead matter.
Please excuse me if my answer seems to be a little cryptic: the question is related to how we view the history of mankind but at the same time i want to confine myself. I hope i gave you some interesting thoughts to continue your search for the answer

First of all, no one invented fire, they may have discovered it, harnessed it, and been able to recreate it, but you can't invent fire.
