We need to know which plants you are referring too. There are so many and each has it's own health and growth requirements.

For potted plants, there's a new product on the market called Soil Moist that can be added to your plant's soil to help retain moisture. It's similar to a gelatinous bead that absorbs the water and then slowly releases it back into the soil.

For areas in your garden that don't get much moisture or gets too much sun, try ornamental grasses, like Pennisetum and Miscanthus.
