I have two dresses: one is black just below the knee very plain. The other is beautiful green, floor length with gold beading but maybe a little too fancy i dont know which to wear. The wedding is on the Boston Harbor at 6 pm in August what should i do????

the green one color wise is more appropriate for the time of year. but they length may be too formal. although it is a 6pm wedding, which is considered more formal than day time. I would definately try to get a hold of the bride or maybe somebody close to the wedding planning to find out how formal it is. otherwise I would do the black one, with maybe some bright accessories. maybe in coral or turquoise.

Can't say because I don't know the formality of the wedding. If it says black tie, go with the second option. if it is a more casual affair, I'd stick with the first.
Perhaps contact the parents of the bride or groom, or someone else who would know and ask about formality and dress. That way you're prepared.
