While in theory, a catalytic converter is acting as a catalyst and doesn't get "used up", pollutants/carbon build up will cause a catalytic converter to go bad.

In the US. Ford warranties the catalytic converter for 8 years/80,000 miles, however Ford hasn't sold the Fiesta in the US for many years now, so I'm assuming you must be in a different country.

Cat converters are covered by all manufacturers selling vehicles in the US under the Federal Emissions standards. They are covered for 8 years or 80,000 miles, whichever comes first. That being said, as you are in the UK, and have not noted whether the car is US spec or a "Euro-spec" vehicle, it's tough to say if your particular vehicle's converter would be covered.
Hope this helps.

I THINK, in the US, Cats need to be waranteed for at least 60,000 miles. That's an EPA thing though.

Anyone know if that's still true?

They shouldn't go bad in less than 50,000 in most circumstances. The problem also lies in the fact that if you have other issues, the Catalytic Converter can go bad very quickly.
