the core 2 duo is a faster processor which uses less power than an AMD turion 64... If those are the only differences in the laptop I'd get the core 2 duo without hesitation.

Coreduo just because is better and faster. On the other hand, AMD is suffering and if AMD were to go out of business, Intel would just be a monopoly. So I say, your choice.
