For thousands of years, slavery has existed in society. The Irish were enslaved, murdered, raped, staved to death. Their shanti houses burned on random. Jews have been enslaved for thousands of years and then just recently during WWII where more jews, gyspies, catholics were killed in a few years in concentration camps than in the entire duration of american slavery. All throughout Europe, asia slavery flurished. The native americans were enslaved in camps and slaughtered and starved. During WWII, descendants of Japanese heritage in america were put in concentration camps. I am not trivializing African slavery. If you think that this is an attempt to do so, move on and dont waste my time. I'm simply asking why all these other ethnic groups hardly ever make a peep about their enslavement whereas alot of African Americans act as though they were enslaved last week even though it happened 150 years ago. Meanwhile, there are jews still alive who suffered the attrocities & never mention it.

I think that the other members of groups who have been enslaved don't expect America to "pay for it".
How many people talk about the Ukrainian holocaust?
I think that people need to wind their watches and get focused on the current times. Everyone has been wronged somewhere in the past. It's not up to the current regime to "right" it, but to make sure that it doesn't reoccur.

I beg to differ, I see Jews on television shows talking about how they were enslaved. They go on to talk about their faith in God, as do African Americans who were enslaved. The Jews put on big protests anytime the Holocaust is taken lightly or mentioned as though it was nothing. So your real question is "why do African Americans complain about being enslaved?" It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who would gloat on being enslaved. That is nothing to be glorified. The difference is that slavery towards blacks was done in America, while the first Americans left England to get away from the enslavement of high taxes. The Native Americans also mention it, they have fought against the government for many years to secure tribal rights. Also if you remember Blacks were treated very badly in the 60s until the Civil Rights movement. So slavery is not right, no matter who it was done to. I don't play the victim role, but it is a part of History, and can't be erased. There's always a lesson to be learned in History.

I am black.I have to say that although every other race has been thru periods of slavery,we are in America, and America is very insensitive to this issue.Yes physical slavery ended in 1865,but their is a form of mental enslavement that exists. The Jewish were given a form of compensation for the holocaust.Blacks were released from slavery with nowhere to go,because that was the only world they ever knew.I'm not trying to play the irrate black man, because alot of us are stuck with the mentality that "the white man this, and that, but you don't have to be a victim.YOU HAVE A CHOICE.Either you can stay mentally trapped,or you can elevate yourself to something greater

If you are studying the history of the United States, the enslavement of African Americans is a major part of that history. I do not deny that other peoples of the world were enslaved, but, because I am an African American and I live in the United States, I am more concerned with the history of my people in this country.

i guess because its one of those things that was widely exposed and publicized. I mean, slavery happened in America and America was supposed to be this great country where every man was treated equal but that was obviously not true. I'm African-American and I personally can't stand it when other african-americans use the excuse of slavery that happened to our ancestors to explain why things aren't going great for them but its important to us because we are still reeling from slavery, and the severe racism of the Reconstruction period, the Civil Rights Era and even now. Also, I always wondered why people only acknowledge the Jewish Holocaust/genocide. There were alot of holocausts that occured in history and we have one happening right now-Darfur.

Africans were enslaved for the longest period of time. I have moved on with my life but we shouldn't forget about history. There is a huge difference.

We are still affected from it.
As the Jews are affected from the Holocaust.
Are you implying that we should just forget 400 years of American history?

the other groups remember, but moved on with their lives instead of constantly using it as an excuse to cover their own shortcomings.
