Instead of having intelligent debates about politics, there are some who make it personal and like to hurl insults at the other side. I have seen many Republicans on here insulting Democrats just because of their political positions and not using facts to back up their claims. I have seen some Democrats insulting Republicans just because George Bush is a Republican and not using anything better than that to debate with Republicans. It is really sad.

I have not seen an intelligent debate on here for months. All I have seen in recent times are trolls on both sides, rantings, and some of the stupidest insults hurled at the other side.

It's hardly just here on Answers. The insulting seems to be a lot more widespread than that. The political process has devolved into a shouting match complete with mudslinging. The candidates do it to one another, and those who belong to the political parties obviously think that is correct behavior. And of course, I speak ONLY of those who ARE mudslinging. There are intelligent people who are willing to debate, but they are shouted down.

The same, unfortunately, could be said of religion and practically everything else. The running belief seems to be: if you do not believe the way I do, you are an idiot. We no longer believe, as a society, in freedom of thought.

Mudslinging is a part of politics and the people on "answers" have just as much right as the politicians to sling their share. In reality, just as much bad things can be said about one party as the other. The repubs happen to be in the oval office now, so that makes them the prime target. Let a democrat get elected, and he/she will draw the same attention. The fact that bush is the worst individual ever to hold the office has nothing to do with his party affiliation. He would be just as inept and corrupt if he were a democrat.

This is unfortunate; but that is the type of "debate" you have when people tend to argue a point using emotion rather than knowledgeable and factual information that has merit and proof. When a person doesn't really have the vocabulary or the knowledge of how to express what you really want to say. This is describing people on both sides; they tend to use insults to express their frustration for the other person they are engaging with. Which leads to no resolution of any kind. Kind of sounds like our congress doesn't it?

I've personally found a bias in the vicious rhetoric towards liberals. I think it's interesting. My theory is that its due to the fundamental approach to things which is held by each side.
Republicans tend to be realists. Meaning that they see the world as it is and tend to advance ideas slowly due to the acceptance of the status quot kind of thinking. They are less upset by weird behavior because they see those people as having always been that way. They still get bent over idea logical differences but less angry at the process.
Democrats tend to be more idealists, seeing the world as it should be. They seem to me to get very frustrated with anyone who would maintain the status quot when things are not as they should be.
I feel that conservatives would tend to not change and liberals would tend to change so rapidly it could not be managed. Both are required to move things forward so the constant fighting is pointless.

There is a silent war going on, socialism versus capitalism. The funny part- only conservatives seem to be aware of the conflict. The news media won't acknowledge it but it's a war without guns and the fate of the country lies in the balance.

People who feel the US should embrace socialism have extreme feelings, they think capitalism should be a chargeable crime. Just look at the hatred towards anyone or thing that represents capitalism- oil, big business, Cheney, Halliburton, these things/people are hated by liberals because they symbolize capitalism.

Conservatives feel the USA will become another France, if we allow socialism to prevail. Many other countries hate the USA because they resent our power and financial superiority. Cons have to fight, to prevent a "one world order" that is a dream of socialists, from happening.

The reason that you see so much anger and outrage on these boards- our media is 95% liberal, they use their power as advocates of socialism. The NY Times spews so much socialist propaganda, which is picked up and spewed by CNN, ABC, CBS and NBC, etc. that if people just allowed the media to tell us what direction in life to go, many simpletons would allow it. Much of the public is totally clueless that the news media feeds them propaganda.

Yes, there are strong differences of opinions and people on both sides get personal when they dispute things.

Some even bait you to come answer their question saying they want bi-partisan debate and then they attack you with their additional comments. One user here is good at that. He will start questions with something like "My liberal friends what do you think? Parties aside"
Then he attacks everyone who gives an answer.
My advice is just let it roll off your shoulder and say what you want. You will find people who will respond in kind.

See here he goes right now as we speak:
"Logical Democrats -- Are You Proud Of Your Brethren Democrat's Questions About Karl Rove ?"

Because there are plenty of posters on both sides that don't really have a grasp of the issues, They only know that they are opposed to the other position and do not care to educate themselves with intellectual discourse. They choose just to believe that are right and call the other side names, as if that is somehow making their point of view valid. In reality, it only shows their ignorance.

It's because nobody can change anyone's beliefs. It takes inward realization to end the brainwashing on either side.

For years I was a brainwashed Liberal and then discovered Rush Limbaugh and couldn't believe the crap he was spewing...until I realized that it was common sense which was so offensive to my Liberal ears. Years later, I came to realize that while Conservativism is closer to how things should be, everything isn't so black and white and I came to my own philosophy.
