First they have to look over the 1040X to make sure that your changes are either correct or look reasonable. If they are not correct or don't look reasonable, they may either deny your 1040X, or ask you for more information to support your change. They also need to make sure that you don't owe them for any other tax years, and also that you don't owe the state or anyone else who could have a priority claim on your refund (child support, lien, levy, judgement, etc.)

It depends on the circumstances of the changes purposed by the 1040X. If the IRS agree and see no problem with the change the refunds normally come in about 8 weeks. If the change is something that they wish to look into, there is no telling how long it will take. I have had some go over a year. You can press the issue a bit by calling them. But you should be careful if the change was on shaky ground to begin with.

It took me around 6-8 weeks. This time of year it should be closer to 1 month.

Maybe 8 weeks or so, so probably mid-September, give or take, if nothing is questioned about the amended return.
