1,500 starving children in Ethiopia?
Would it matter where the starving children were located? Would it matter how many starving children?

Having worked in radio for a number of years, I do not miss being employed there at all! For the most part radio is mindless chatter and brain numbing commercials. The songs are there simply as an excuse for the masses to put up with all of the mind control Would I give up radio? GLADLY! I enjoy the quiet inside of my car. I would give up radio, not only for myself, but for the entire world, if it could help only 1 child. Do we REALLY need Howard Stern and Don Imus? Are they really bettering the human condition on this planet? Radio, Smadio! It is an outdated technology that is hanging on by a slim thread. The media is grasping at straws, trying to reinvent itself so it can keep what few listener it has. Mainly by shocking people by outrageous jocks. It is a vast sea of worthless crap. "Good morning. It's 92 degrees and up next we have a couple of lesbians who paint horse portraits with their own blood." "Let's go to wacky Fred and see what's happening with traffic?"

Can you REALLY weigh this against the life of any child!?

These are fun answers, eh? I appreciate that the one guy said he would do it for just one child. In fact, one child is actually more touching than 1,500. And to make it even more personal, you could name that child, like your niece, neighbor, etc. 1,500 children in Ethiopia is a statistic. Our brains compute it as a newscast or sappy ideal. But my son? Would I give up radio (even podcasts) for my son. Without a doubt. Maybe I disbelieve that something like that would touch 1,500 children on the other side of the world. If there was an email asking for it, explaining how it worked, to be honest, I would delete it quickly. We aren't desensitized to violence, we are desensitized to sensitivity. Good to hear from you.

Very odd question!

Would I be able to listen to recordings of the radio off of bit torrent or something? Pod casts?

But for seven years, I'd insist that it would help a lot more than just 1,500...for that, I'd want like a million starving children...

EDIT: I could still listen to my CD's and MP3's, right?

...and we DO need Howard Stern.

Amazing what we could share if we gave up Satellite Radio, Cable TV, Starbucks, and the Internet. Would I help, sure I would, I wouldn't really discriminate in where I personally sent my monies, and I am sure that, since we would have to make our own entertainment, we would end up being a better world. I just do not want to contribute to charities like the Red Cross, who only enrich themselves, politicians, and waste tons of money. Been there and seen it first hand

I could easily give up on public radio...
No problem...
I hardly ever listen anyway...
I have enough TV, videos and CD's to last me forever...
