My insurance is only going to pay for one. I doubt if they say it's a boy it could be a mistake, but what if they mistakenly think it's a girl? How often does that happen?

I had a girl and they were correct with mine....just keep in mind that the person doing the ultrasound is trained and knows what they are looking for...I say they are pretty accurate...not 100% though.....

I had an ultrasound at 17 weeks and they said it was a 99% chance I was having a boy. I don't think they like to say 100% in case they are wrong. The farther along you get, the more accurate they can be. You need to hope that the baby cooperates with you though =)

I am going to be getting a 4D ultrasound done. It is only $150.00 for 45 minutes, pictures, and a DVD. If all else fails and you really want to know- this is an option.

Good Luck!

It doesnt happen as often as you think. The chances of them predicting a boy baby is 95% accurate, or so i read. Girls are often harder to predict due to their genitalia being swollen in utero. I guess what you can say is I hope the baby moons the camera for you that way they get a darn good look to tell you!! Good Luck!

It depends on what week you are in and if the baby is cooperating. With my first son I had 4 ultrasounds and never could determine the sex. With this pregnancy I had one at 18 weeks and you could definitely tell it was a boy. He had his legs wide opened and he was holding his penis as if he were saying, " look Mom, here it is!".
Good luck to you.

Mainly when they say its a boy they have definetly found his goods. But with a girl its a lil diff. They could have missed it or the baby could have been in a wierd position for the exam. My opinion would be to wait until a little after 20wks to be sure they can know what they are looking at!

My sister was told its a girl and almost bought a girly outfit but I told her to wait for the next ultrasound and it was a boy. if 2 ultrasounds show its a boy then it likely is.

It depends on if you have a good sonographer. But they've been known to be wrong, and yes, more often wrong with girls than boys. If they see something (penis) there, it's there. But if they don't see something there, it could be hiding or at a weird angle. And any good sonographer will not mistake umbilical cord or other parts for a penis.

VERY accurate. Don't worry about mistakes, they're usually 99.9% sure that it's a boy or a girl. If there is any confusion, they tell you straight off the back.

the tech will probably tell you how accurate their opinion is on the gender.

my ultra sounds were at 18 weeks, and both times they were VERY positive the babies were boys ...... heck, even I saw they were boys, lol.
