The most obvious changes this administration has made to the US concern those of foreign policy.

We now know that both President Bush and then-Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld arrived in Washington with an interest in engaging Iraq. The obvious consequences of this intent are the current US-led presence in Iraq along with the toppling of the Hussein regime.

In a broader sense, foreign policy shifts made subsequent to 9/11 saw the US making no distinction between terrorist groups and countries that provided them with materiel, training bases, funding or other support. This doctrine was declared in recognition of the fact that many forces hostile to the United States are essentially stateless, existing instead as loose, often-improvised groups or more formalized cells and covert networks. This reality is complicated by a tradition of war that relies on overt tribes or states with declared hostilities that are thus more easily defined as targets.

Some will argue that in addition to these shifts, President Bush, either through policy or general demeanor, has strained relationships between the US and other world powers. Finally, the costs involved in the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq certainly cannot be ignored.

A two-term presidency is certain to create a host of long-term effects on all matters of policy, and these are certainly only a few in a long list.

George Bush has left a negative legacy, a divided society with more terrorism that before. He has damaged the oldest civilization in the world, Iraq and divided its people.

He took us from a budget surplus to a deficit that will take decades to reduce. He has eviscerated civil rights here in our country and made us look like prime hypocrites abroad. He has gutted environmental protection to an extent that will also take decades to reduce. He has used forest fires as an excuse to cut down forests! He has attempted to put science under the control of the government, not the facts. He has ordered members of his administration to refuse to respond to Congressional subpoenas. He has signed bills that make him look good on paper, then refused to fund them.

Good: made people really think who they will vote for next, converted some republicans, and got a dictator.
Bad: split the country, did not respond to Katrina, and irresponsible spending.

No child left behind. While there are many critics and it isn't perfect, he is the first president in a generation to try to fix the problem. While I don't think any president in the past was against education, they mainly just threw money at it. They didn't try to change the way things are done, and Bush did that. Whether you like it or not, it is a step in the right direction, don't dismantle the program, find the problems and fix them. The problem is democrats don't want to fix it, they would rather scrap it, because if the it gets fixed and works, then it will be tied to Bush and the republican congress. It is a matter of ego. Ego's need to be set aside for the better good.

Removed all pretense that the USA is something special, a prosperous democracy that believes in the rule of law.

We're just another police state now, and an especially vicious one. But not for long, because the world will not tolerate it.

He gave us a bad reputation to the rest of the world in only 7 years and technically it's his fault that hundreds of thousands of men in Iraq were killed on both sides.
