i would say as many as the parents can honestly afford to put through school , university and give a decent home with enough food and of course love and happiness.

I'm not sure how many one should have but we'd like to have two - one boy and one girl.
I'm an only child and though it equipped me to deal with extended periods of solitude it's always nice to have someone around sometimes. I'd rather have an older brother for my daughter - kind of a big brother protection thing.
We're currently looking at what the best dog for children and safety would be. Any ideas?

Yes, things are pretty expensive hey? I think it's up to you and your partner but personally, I would say 2, allowing them to grow up together. I have three aged 30, 28 & 26. They are all very fond of each other and although it was a bit difficult trying to give them all the best, I don't regret it for one minute. I'm now looking forward to my first granchild early September and I will also suggest they should have two.

My grandpa thought 11 was a nice number to call it quits (grandma probably threatened the h_rny old bull with the koekroller), but these days 2 or 3 is a sensible number.

I think 1 is generally enough these days. Then the little thing gets all the attention and love from both parents, no conflicts with siblings and the best of everything.

I would love a pigeon pair but our family have a bad case of twins throughout, so I,m a bit wary. HeavyD knows what it's like. I have two sets of twin brothers and luckily, I,m the last and only girl.

I think it's a personal choice. However, I agree with you - the cost of living is literally too high!!!! I would settle for two... when the other spolit brat doesn't want to take a Sunday morning drive with me...I can blackmail him by using the other one.....hahaha...they also use that trick with their parents, after all!!!!

I'd love to have 2 boys and a girl, in that order. I'm an only child (technically) and it sucks. They expect a lot more maturity from one child, because if there are more they just say "Ai, die kinders...". Just a thought. =)

I think as many as you can afford.
Having one child is good economically
but now socially is that good for the child I don't know.
Its nice to know you have a brother or a sister I mean that's guaranteed love, those people have no choice but to love you for ever.
Family reunions will be very lonely.
P.S
At least have 2 kids.
