PCOS and/or endometriosis. I have both and I've had surgery twice. BCP's have never really worked for me, but I have to take them anyway - they sort of slow down the effects so I don't have to have surgery so often.
You could ask your doctor for a blood test to check for high testosterone levels, an ultrasound will also diagnose PCOS - you'll see what looks like a strand of pearls around your ovaries.
Endo can't be officially diagnosed without surgery, doctors just put people on BCP's & hope that takes care of it most of the time.
You could also ask your doctor about Meclomen. It's an NSAID like Aleve or Advil but it works in an extra way, it reduces your flow (we're talking the same amount of blood in 7 days as you would consider normal for just 1 day without the medicine)- less flow means less pain for endometriosis.
I had a lot of nausea from the PCOS, that's all gone away since my surgery though. One of my ovaries was so swollen with cysts that it actually flopped out of place.
Oh yeah, the weight gain could be from the PCOS too. Sometimes PCOS causes you to become insulin resistent. A lot of doctors trest PCOS with diabetes meds, that'll help lose the weight. Otherwise, weight loss might be tough. Stick to a sensible diet, meaning cut out the fatty, fried, sugary, snacky foods. That'll be a great start. Exercise 30 minutes a day, switch it up a little bit so you don't get bored doing the same thing every day. The exercise will help with the pain even. There are some great yoga tapes that are designed with weight loss i nmind, so they're not too stressful on your body but they really work.
Good luck, talk to your doctor. If they don't listen, find a new doctor. This ISN'T normal, and you shouldn't feel this way. A reproductive endocrinologist specializes in these things, don't hesitate to see one. Your ability to have children could rest on you taking action about this asap.

It COMPLETELY depends on the person and the pill they are on. Your doctor can not tell you what exactly you can expect when it comes to the weight gain. Some pills TEND to cause more weight gain than others, but it totally depends on the person. The good news is, if you don't like how your body is reacting to the pill, your doctor will immediately switch you to a different kind. I was gaining weight and having other problems with my pill and I went to my gyno and he switched me to Yaz. I completely went back to normal and my periods are totally regular. I start my period on the same day every single month.

Call your doctor immediately about the side affects. It MAY be the pill but it could be something else!

Oh and I would not suggest the shot. Too many women have too many negative things happening to them. Google "depo provera lawsuit" and also check out the reviews on http://www.rateitall.com

I'm on Kariva, its a low dose hormone pill and I've had NO side affects on.
