I ponder that same question, every time I see an old wreck of an automobile with "Bush/Cheney" stickers on them. The bloody lot didn't help the poor wankers get a better auto now, did they?

The rich, poor and the many in-between understand that less government is good government. Build a strong economy (like now for example) and people will have jobs, pay their bills, buy more to help the economy and generally prosper. When folks prosper, the crime rate declines (at least some).

So, to answer you question, the economically disadvantaged are beginning to understand the futility of a handout styled government that tries to keep them poor, rather than helping them help themselves. That in itself is enough reason to vote Republican.

The poor people that vote for Republicans aren't the people that most Americans think of when they think "poor". We tend to see poverty as an inner-city dilemma, when it fact it is not. Think of all the people living below the poverty line in those "red states". These people vote republican because they identify with the party. For the most part, most political analysts will deem the chief contributer as ethical/moral issues. For example, a landscaper in North Carolina makes between $7 and $10 an hour...depending on their number of dependants, they are more than likely going to be below the poverty line. HOWEVER, being from North Carolina they are more LIKELY to be pro-gun, pro-life, pro-prayer in schools, etc....they also are more likely to vote for a candidate that represents their moral and ethical values.....case in point George W. Bush

I earn very little money. So i want to keep as much of it as possible. Republicans PRETEND to be for small government and less taxes. That is a good reason to THINK you are going to get what you vote for.

In illinois the tax on gasoline is a CRIME. Its not big oil that is the problem its government.

Democrats however are at least honest and up front that they want to raise taxes and force health care to be paid by everyone.

Fck Democrats.

Obviously you don't understand the difference between the "working " poor and the "welfare" poor....The working poor believe in doing things for themselves and progressing their lives without Gov't intervention, while the welfare poor vote for those that will give them more "benefits".

Why wouldn't they? ... Unless you are referring to poor people who make a living sucking off the government teat...that have been raised to accept the welfare mentality as livelihood. On the other hand, those that actually want to improve their lot and go after their piece of the American dream do not see themselves as eternal victims. And the Democratic party appeals to the victim mentality.

Usually demographics relate more to votes than anything. The midwest and bible belt is very different from the costs, including the people who live below the poverty line.

I always thought it was just the opposite. But I think I know one thing...that is, this time you will find that it doesn't matter, rich, or poor, healthy or not, white or black, etc...there may not be an distinction between the voters.
