1. You cannot play the game offline, so yes, you have to pay the monthly $15 subscription to enjoy the game. You do get the first 30 days free, however.

(note: if you want to play offline, you'd have to set up a dupe server on your PC. Kindly search for "world of warcraft offline" on Yahoo to download the appropriate program. Please bear in mind that if you do decide to play offline, you'll be the only cognizant player in a very big gaming world, so there will be no fun in that. You won't even see around 25% of the content that's programmed for parties and raid groups.)

2. No, you don't need a copy (and an updated account) of the Burning Crusade to play with your friends. However, you will only be able to play with each other in the "old" world, pre-expansion, namely the continents of Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms. You will not be able to play with them in the Outlands, Azuremyst Isle, nor the Blood Elf starting area. Also, and more importantly, you will only be able to reach level 60 at the most, hence only experience up to level 60 content. They will be able to reach level 70 and experience all the content the game has to offer.

1. You can't play WoW offline. WoW is a massive multiplayer online role playing game, and you must have an active internet connection to play. There is a monthly fee of $13US or more per month to keep your account active.

2. You don't need BC to play with your friend, but you won't have access to the BC content without it. Unless you want to play one of the two new races though, you won't need BC content until you are in the high 50s.

PS Once you have installed WoW, you don't need the CDs anymore. The disk does not have to be in the drive to play.

2. You can play with them online and stuff, But if they go to outlands you will be left behind if you do not have the burning crusade. And you cannot get to level 70 without the burning crusade.
