I'm thinking of opening up a restaurant. In the morning it would be a bakery with muffins and coffee cake and pastries and donuts and bagels and coffee, in the afternoon it would be a lunch place with sandwiches and soups, paninis, wraps, burritos, pizza slices, and some entrees, and later in the day we would have more entrees plus prepared food that people could take home to heat up for dinner. Do you like the idea and any suggestions?

I've been in the business for several years and have owned several of my own restaurants, and frankly I think your biting off too much.
Do you realize that by serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner you will never have any kind of life whatsoever? Even just a dinner restaurant has owners spending their lives in the restaurant.
If you are willing to give up your life for it there are also other considerations that you are going to have to address before getting too involved in your plans. First how in the world are you going to have enough kitchen space to prepare everything you will need to service your customers. Remember, a bakery takes up a lot of room and time to prepare items. While those pieces of equipment are being used they are not available for prep which you will need to be doing for your next meal service. Secondly is the labor issues. Payroll could eat you up so be careful! Finally there is your customers. Keep in mind that you will need to develop three different markets as people rarely eat lunch where they eat breakfast or dinner where they eat lunch.
I have a web site that may help you, especially if this is your first adventure. http://www.foodandbeverageunderground.com Drop me a line on the contact page of the site if you need more help.

You are going to need a large staff.
The transition from dough-nuts to plate lunch requires some smooth logistics to keep from repeating meals.
You late entree will require some planning also...
I would specialize, burgers, fries, philly's,
simple salads.
Have a take -out and the people will come.
Do this and strive to be the best, and you WILL be successful.

I like the idea of selling pre made meals to people. It may be biting off a little too much to chew though. Are you sure you want to be open for all three meal services? Also, make sure to have a signature dish or two and a daily special. Good luck, the resturant world is a tough one!

Yes I would go to your restaurant at least once, just to see about your prices, the taste of your food, and how you treated your customers. it wouldn't be for your grand opening or too near your opening because that is when you are at your best. It would be after you have gotten established and are doing your run of the mill days. Than I would know if I would return or not.

Sounds a lot like Atlanta Bread Co., here. Love the place, and the addition of dinner take-out is a winner too.

If you can pull it off - yes. Unfortunately, I have seen and experienced many a restaurant who tries to do too much (too great a variety in their menu and services) and they end up not excelling in anything. I much prefer an eatery that specializes and excels in what they do.

i like the idea, good luck with the restaurant.
I would advise probably adding maybe a signature dish or dishes to make your restaurant different from the average restaurant.
Also you could like have like a cool setting with having neutral colors with music playing (not blasting that you cant hear your order though).
Thats most of my opinions good luck anyways .

Sounds good. I would give it a try, you offer a great choice. Perhaps too much choice - it might be easier for you to manage if you keep it a bit simpler
