Many laptops have air vents in the bottom of the case. If these vents are blocked, such as by blankets or your pant legs, it can interfer with the sire flow through the laptop and cause it to overheat.
The heat from the laptop, for men, can also interfer with sperm production.
One solution is to get a lap board, and set your computer on that before setting it on your lap or a soft surfance like a bed.

Your laptop will eventually overheat. The vents in the bottom, sides and rear need to be free of obstructions. So resting the laptop on a bed or your pants restricts airflow to the "guts" of your computer. Since laptops run much hotter then a desktop, keep all openings clear. I"d recommend purchasing a "cool mat" specifically designed for laptops. These have extra fans to pull heat down and away from your laptop computer.

Mine used to overheat after a couple of hours of use, and I purchased a cooling dock for it for about $30 dollars.
It's just a flat piece with two fans in it that sends the hot air out the back through an opening. It works really well. Aside from one fan not kicking in initally, but a little smack and it gets going. It connects right to the ubs port. Hot balls also.
Not a good thing!

yes that is really true..
even though they are called laptops... its not good to use it on your pants or bed.. primarily because laptop tends to OVERHEAT... that is the main reason...
you try to put it on your lap you'll feel its getting hotter because it doesn't get enough ventilation.. at the bottom part of your laptop you will see a small ventilation where the fan is located.. that part should get enough air and space for your laptop not to overheat..
you must always place your laptop (when in use) in a flat surface like tables...
also overheating will cause your computer to malfunction.. if this happens, it wont startup even turn on and you will need a replacement for fan.. :)

Im not sure where you heard that, but maybe putting it on the bed or pants may block the fan so it might cause your laptop to warm up.

I'm assuming because they're cloth. Your computer will dig itself a hole in your bed or on your pants, and end up blocking the heat vent on the side or bottom of your computer. You can seriously mess up your computer by making it overheat - processor, hard drive, memory could stop working. My hard drive just recently crashed because I always used it on a cloth FiveStar binder.

One reason men might not want to put it on their pants (on their lap, I assume) is below.
A study by State University of New York researchers says heat generated from laptops can significantly elevate the temperature of the scrotum, potentially putting sperm count at risk. The study, which included more than two dozen men ages 13 to 35, found that the sitting position required to balance a laptop can raise scrotum temperature by as much as 2.1°C. Heat from the laptop itself can raise the temperature by another 0.7°C, bringing the potential total increase to 2.8°C. However, further research is needed to determine whether this directly affects sterility in men. [8]

The fans are usually on the bottom and it needs to be able to get air to cool of the computer. You can pick up a thing that has fans that you set ur computer on and it keeps it cool and you can set that on your lap. 25 bucks at walmart

It has a tendency to overheat - the fan is in the base of a lappy generally! So long as you keep the airflow to it free, it should be ok.
