If we're discussing dominance then the amount of championship rings should be a deciding factor in addition to just sheer talent because Michael Jordan was not only dominant but he was able to utilize his talent in a way that contributed to his team's success. The NBA superstars who have obtain the most titles within the last decade are Shaquille O'Neal, Tim Duncan, and Kobe Bryant.
In terms offensive production and dominance in the paint, it has to be Shaq. Nobody was more unstoppable in their prime. Like Jordan, teams had no answer for Shaq in the paint. In terms of a combination of both offense and defense, it's a tie between Duncan and Kobe because like Jordan, they played at both ends of the court. Timmy anchor the middle by scoring inside and offering an intimidating defensive presence. Kobe is a dangerous scorer from anywhere on the court and he does play good defense as evident by a number of his NBA All-Defensive 1st Team selections.
However, to say that either one of these guys were as dominant as MJ was in his prime would be a stretch because all 3 of them have their individual flaws. Shaq was not a great defender or an intimidating shotblocker. Duncan uses fitness and fundamentals to overcome his lack of bulk and strength to bang against bigger and stronger big men. However, big bodies like Desagna Diop and Kurt Thomas have been known to give him problems in the playoffs which proves that Timmy can be contained in some games. Kobe may be an unstoppable scorer for a guard but he still hasn't been able to shed the label of being Shaq's sidekick in their 3 consecutive championship run. Therefore, he remains a league below Shaq and Duncan until he gets another ring on his own.
To sum it all up, I would have to say that Shaq was the most dominant player since MJ retired because nobody could stop him. He took 3 entirely different teams to the NBA Finals and won championships with 2 of the teams (he would have won 3 if he didn't have to go through Hakeem's Rockets). So that shows you how much of an impact he has had on the court. However, now I believe the torch has been passed again as the Diesel has handed it over to the Big Fundamental. Similar to Shaq, Mr. Duncan was able to win a championship with a 2 different cast of players / stars but on the same team. So now that the torch has already been passed to Tim Duncan, we should all ask who is going to be the next player to inherit the honor of leading the NBA into the next decade. Well, that answer has already been given by the Big Fundamental himself. After the Cleveland / San Antonio series ended in last season's NBA Finals, Duncan was answering questions to the press while LeBron was waiting for his turn to come up to the podium. On his way up, Timmy stop LeBron and made this comment to him "The league will be yours pretty soon". Now that, coming from 4-Time NBA Champion, really does mean something.

I agree its between Duncan and Shaq. Duncan has been consistently excellent since he turned pro. Shaq had a few years where he was completely unstoppable, and played like he really was Superman. But he also had too many years where he was (for Shaq anyway) rather ordinary. I'm giving the edge to Duncan. I'm bothered by how many different teams Shaq has played for. How many players with his kind of talent get traded? Twice? And I'd love it if the Spurs get number 5, but you're not being realistic if you're picking them over the Lakers right now. The Lakers simply have more talent. If the Spurs are going to win it all, they'll have to get some help from LA.... either an injury to one of the Lakers key players, or some sort of chemistry or complacency issues. Either of those are possible, but right now the inside track belongs to the Lakers.

It will be a tie between Shaq and Tim Duncan. For the past nine seasons, there are been four championships by Duncan's team, and four championship by Shaq's team(s).
But in the end I would say Shaq is a more dominant player due to sheer size and intimidations. Duncan thrives on the fundamentals and is great, but Shaq's presence is more commanding.

Jordan didn't dominate anything until the great teams of the 80's got old and retired. The Bulls dominated the 90's because the 90's teams were like high school quality! Jordan and the Bulls win the all-time overrated poll!

Shaq,
Post Jordan, they stopped calling his charges, same as they didn't call Jordan's pushing off, or traveling, after Magic and Bird retired.

In Basketball It has to be Shaq. When he is healthy he can change a game at any time. LeBron is second but give it a year, maybe my feelings will switch. Kobe is up there as well.
