ok the Barry Bonds debate rages... i just saw an answer that described BB as a lifetime .280 hitter... fair enough... then they took a shot at his 73HR season and .350 BA...

but why are these totals... juiced or not... seemingly fair... any guy who hits 73 Jacks is gonna get walked a hell of a lot as well so why does this make sense to me and not the person who wrote it...

oh and my real question is... even if he did juice... how at 375yrs old has he hit as many as he has this year???

We're talking about a guy who was the best player of his generation long before even his worst detractors think he started using steroids. That is why when you add cheating to the mix you get almost unbelievable statistics, even in his mid-to-late 30's.

There's a story of Bonds at an All-star game sitting in the dugout with a bunch of other players. He called the pitches almost literally as the ball came of out the pitcher's hand, and was surprised when the other guys couldn't do it, too. He has phenomenal pitch recognition, a great swing, and great hand-eye coordination. When you add the extra muscle mass from steroids or HGH or whatever he (probably) took, of course you get the greatest hitter ever.

It is impressive to hit that many HRs juiced or not. The amazing part of that season was if he ever got a pitch to swing at it ended up out of the park which is just ridiculous. HOWEVER, at that age his body shouldn't be getting stronger or bigger. The fact that he played in so many games would be more amazing for not the suspected use of the juice.

I have to agree with the captain, Barry Bonds is a very good hitter that would have had a good, long carreer. But then Barry Bonds cheated, became a great hitter and has a hall of fame carreer.

The Redsox had a great named Yaz at one time. ok He was a great leftfielder and a good hitter. As he got older of course his stats declined. Explain how Barry Bonds stats improved as he got older.

because he usually has great timing and is most of the time not thrown off balance by curves or changes. he swings for the fences most of the time. if he doesn't hit a home run, he usually pops it up or flys out.he used to hit linedrives (which is what every player is taught to do) and then one year he jacked about 100 home runs a couple years in a row and his head enlarged and people suspected steroids

No one said he wasn't a great hitter. He's a great hitter, who cheated.
