The instructions on the baby carriers usually recommend waiting until your baby is 2 months old. Before that, the material may cut off circulation to your baby's legs. Even after 2 months, be careful how much you use it. Try a sling instead. You can buy them online at several different stores. Try www.mammasmilk.com!

I'd suggest using a pocket sling instead. You can have them custom made to fit you for a very reasonable cost, and they will hold your baby safely in a cradle position from birth.
When baby can hold his/her head up, you can move them to a sort of "buddha" position facing out. My three and a half month old loves hers, and often my family would not get dinner if I wasn't 'wearing' the baby.As baby grows, there are many different positions to adapt through about age two depending on the size of your baby. I've used every kind of carrier with all of my kids and the sling is best for the first few months. It also distributes the baby's weight more evenly on your torso than the 'pack' carriers.
I save pack carriers until about three months. Except now, the little one prefers the sling!
if you search on e-bay you can find a well-made custom fit sling for 20-25 dollars. I just bought an extra from a seller named- karleyelizabeth - and it's beautiful and cost 19.99. Look her up. You'll be glad you did. (so will your spouse!)

You have the best baby carrier built in: your own arms. If you have to walk a lot with your baby, then a sling is a great idea. However, in order to transport your baby in a car, you do need a carrier. Make sure you get the appropriate one, according to the baby's size. The baby's legs should never hang out of the carrier. When your baby is able to hold the head up, change to a car seat. This may happen rather quickly. My son, for instance, was able to hold his head up about three or four weeks after birth. My daughter took a little longer.

I used ours when my daughter was 8 pounds. Our baby carrier went by weight and suggested not putting a baby less than 8 pounds in it. I used it all the way until my daughter hit about 22 pounds and then she was just too darn heavy to carry around. The person above has a good point...I did make sure my daughter could hold her head up too.

I'm with everyone else that has suggested a sling. I have a pouch sling and a ring sling, and have been using both since my 7 1/2 mo was born. He was(and is) a cery high needs baby that expected to be held, so the slings are the only way I got anything accomplished! LOL

it all depends you have a veriety of options for a carrier. thers backpack ones, which i wouldnt recomend till they are at least 3 months, then you have some where its just material, could just look like a shirt wrap, or a sash that the baby goes in those ones are safe from birth i believe.
