Roughly 9 weeks. Keep to a regular routine as much as you can. Bath, soft lighting, story, cuddle, bottle or drink and then bed. Even at a very young age, they can begin to distinguish the differences between night and day.
For the moment though, sleep when you can!!!

Because when a baby is awake the mother is tending to the baby the majority of the time. When the baby sleeps, that becomes an opportunity for the mom to get household chores done, a shower maybe, cook some food or just eat a snack, pay some bills etc. Your body doesn't shut of automatically the second your baby falls asleep. And my baby never slept. She took 15-30 min naps 3 times a day and woke every 2 hours in the night. Now, at almost 8 months, she naps 30 min to an hour at the most once or twice a day and wakes every 3-4 hours in the night. Every baby is different. My friend has a baby who sleeps so much the mom is actually bored. Me on the other hand, I never stop.

Sleeping through the night for a newborn is officially a 6 hour stretch. My exclusively breastfed daughter did this at about 4 weeks. Two sleeping tips when they are little is to swaddle and let them sleep in a cradle type swing (like the ones Fisher Price make that go back and forth and side to side). One night I fell asleep after putting her in the swing and actually got a full night's sleep. The doctor said it was perfectly fine to do when they are newborns (its not like they are going anywhere) and to take sleep whatever way I could get it (as long as I wasn't putting her on her stomach).
One more thing, if you are nursing your baby try cluster feeding in the evening before bed.

My son's always been a pretty good sleeper. I honestly don't remember when he started sleeping through the night though.
As for tips, try getting him or her to eat more during the day so he isn't waking up hungry during the night. Maybe mix cereal with his milk or formula. Feed her right before bed. I don't know how young your baby is so it's hard to say really. There's a while there where the baby just needs those early morning feedings.
There does come a point where the waking up in the middle of the night is more habit than hunger pains. You'll just have to feel your baby out and see what you think.

Sounds like mommy is the one not getting enough sleep!
Well, from my experience, and I have nine children, I havent had a baby sleep 'all through the night' until they were close to a year. Despite all my friends babies slept (ore they claimed) the day they got home from the hospital. I did notice a HUGE inprovement when I added rice cereal ONLY to the night tiome bottle. Some pediatricians reccomend no cereal until 3-6 months. Well, my answer was day THREE!
I got a juice nipple added just a teaspoon or two of the rice cereal and a pinch of sugar for good luck, I shook it and shook it and shook it. Swaddled the lil one, let him go at it, rubbed his back until a HUGE burp sounded and put him to bed on a firm surface on there side. Using a recieving blanket to wedge the front of them so they couldnt roll onto there face. This ensures the longest stretch of sleep for you both. But as to all night?? Wait about a year hon! You'll both do fine.

I dont have a child personaly but i recently visited some family and they have a 6 month old boy and i heard them say that recently for about 3 days they slept all night. Babys usualy have like 30 minute naps and got to bed for about 5 hrs apparently. So around 6 months is when they sleep all night more or less and for sleeping tips i guss closer to the time it usually sleeps play with it a little more maybe make him/her tired. But i dont have a child i just thout I'd put my two cence in. Also i'm not sure if you mean sleep for the whole night or just fall asleep arount night time i ment sleep for the whole night.

I brought my son home from teh hospital he was about 4 days old...I kept him by my bed for about 4 days...then put him into his own crib at about 1-1-1/2 weeks old. By 2-1/2 weeks we had fallen into a routine and he would go down at 9pm and wake up at 7am. So put him into his own bed as soon as you can. I enjoyed the sleeping through the night at 2-1/2 weeks. Even now that he is 3 he will only sleep in his own bed.

It really depends on the baby. I have three kids- kept the same routine with each one. my 14 week old has been sleeping at least 7 hours at night since two weeks old. My middle daughter did around three months. And my oldest, at seven years old, STILL doesn't! I doubt she ever will, and at this point I'm just guessing she has a bright future in emergency medicine on the night shift!

I think he slept all night at 4 months. I've heard it said that it's brain development that allows a baby to sleep longer. That their brain has to develop to a certain point.
I don't know about getting them to stay asleep, nothing ever worked for me. I would, however, be very quiet when I'd get crying baby up. No lights, no talking, complete silence. I'd nurse & then put baby back to bed (this usually took 15 minutes).

your baby will deside on his/her own to sleep the night, but there are some things that help. like if they have a security blanket, something that makes them feel comfortable no matter where they are. my daughter started sleeping her nights at around 4 months. i can remember wakeing up in the middle of the night because i was sore(breastfed) when i realized she didnt want to feed. foolish me got up and pumped some milk since she didnt get up.( couldnt take the engorgement)
