When your baby is ready it will come. You really can't force it, believe me I've tried. I tried spicy food, greasy Chinese food, whole fresh pineapple (saw it on the internet and was willingly to try anything), walking/sightseeing, mowing the lawn, LOTS of sex, anything and everything with the exception of castor oil. All that and I finally had to be medically induced at 2 1/2 weeks past my due date. A lot of people claim that something put them into labor, but at the end of a pregnancy its often just circumstantial. it's easy to link something to the start of labor, but it really isnt' the cause of it. No one stays pregnant forever.

The little love will come when it is good and ready. I was almost 10 months with my first daughter and was even induced twice which did not work!!

Problem with trying all the good old wifes tales is that if they don't work you suffer the consequences:

I tried :

Caster Oil - spent 2 days on the loo in agony not knowing whether I was sh*****ing or giving birth!!

Hot,hot bath - feet swelled and doubled in size

Sex - the only time ever when not really in the mood and ended up putting my back out!

Dancing - By 9 1/2 months , I thought my daughter was now invading my time - I had been good and done everything right so far. Was fat, tired and in general really irritable. Told my mom I was going out and I was either going to drink or dance this baby out!!! Had a ball , had a few drinks - no baby but aching feet and head for at least 3 days after!!

Stimulating your nipples for an hour : Hubbie loved it ( hence point above) - drove me mad - no result

Hot buffalo wings - tasty - heartburn - no result

Rasberry tea - tasted ok , no result

Salad with balsamic vinegar in dressing - tasty - no result

Bumpy ride - everything wobbled like crazy , not very comfortable - no result

Foot rubs - fab and relaxing - no result

So there you are! In hindsight my advice would be to put your feet up, relax , see all the movies you would like to see , get some sleep, read a couple of good books etc becasue once your bundle of joy arrives you won't be doing much of that!

Good luck

I am in the same boat. I was due a week ago. Nothing has worked for me. I've tried rasberry leaf tea, curry, pineapple, clary sage oil, a birthing ball, walking, jumping, positive thinking and just about everything else you can imagine. It's all a load of tosh if you ask me. This is my second baby and nothing worked last time either. My midwife tried to give me a sweep the day after I was due, but she could not even reach my cervix. She is going to try again tomorrow, but if it fails again, then I'll be in the hospital for a proper induction on Thursday. It was the same story last time too. I've just come down with a rotten cold too, just what I needed! Some women just have longer pregnancies I guess and if you're body is not ready to let go, then it wont. I suggest you sit back and enjoy the quiet time before baby does come. I know it's easier said than done though isnt it. Good luck - we'll get there eventually!

Sex Sex Sex!! lol! I am serious!! It really works and here's why...
There is a hormone in sperm similar to the hormone they use to induce labour (the gel or drip) so have a fantastic night/morning/afternoon (lol) attacking your hubby, then keep laying down with a big fat pillow/s under your butt and, in the words of my fantastic midwife, "bathe your cervix in semen" to soften it and hopefully start labour along. Lay down like this with a good book or magazine for 30mins or as long as you can stand it. (they put the gel on your cervix too so its just mimicking it)
It works best when your cervix is already starting to thin and dilate (which is common in late pregnancy anyway) and will hopefully give it a kick along! My son was born 24hrs after I did this (daughter was actually induced on due date but because of complications so I didn't get to try it with her).

Good luck and I hope you get to meet your baby soon!!
(if it doesn't work, it was worth trying it hey!! Oh and don't try castor oil, you might go into labour but with really bad diarrhea!!! and spicy curries, rasp leaf tea etc...don't work either!)

Sex. Apparently, when you're due to have the baby, there is a certain chemical/hormone naturally found in semen which can trigger labour!

I'm due anytime from next Sunday and I'm going to try this one!!

I was 5 days late despite having sex, curry, doing lots of walking and all the usual recommends. However, the baby still came unexpectedly as I'd just resigned myself to it being late and possibly having to be induced so perhaps the trick is to just relax and not feel too anxious about it. Just enjoy the time you have left being pregnant as when baby comes he/she's a lot harder to look after!!

I had accupuncture and went into labour the following day. I know 2 other women who had the same thing happen.

Know exactly how ya feeling - due on 22nd. Sick of people asking if i have had any twinges - What does this mean??? I just don't think my baby will ever come.

Midwife did suggest sex but my husband is just not keen anymore he is terrified of hurting the baby.

Good luck to you my thoughts are with you!!
