If there IS a real fire?

You are probably congratulated by the firefighters for always being aware of your surroundings.

A "crowded theater" is a dangerous place to start a panic, and you would be sued by the injured and the survivors of anyone killed in the ensuing pandemonium, perhaps based upon the theory that an "ordinary prudent person" would have chosen a more suitable means to raise such an alarm "under similar circumstances". There are nice questions of fact to be left to a "jury of your peers", and you could possibly be acquitted of liability (less likely if you were also responsible for the actual fire, or for anything related to the building or the fire service). The defense of "but there was a fire" would probably not get you very far. There may also be criminal endangerment charges.

Everybody will get in line and walk out of the theater in a calm and orderly fashion. You hope.

If there is a fire, and its not visible, most people would probably get confused and be like wtf, security would come in and try to arrest you, since it is a felony, unless you can show them the fire. If the fire were visible, depending on its size, people would either run and scream in disarray, or try to put it out.
