I'd like to buy a much larger internal (300 GB) hard drive for my Inspiron 2200, but don't know what I need to look for to make sure the new hard drive works with my computer. Could someone please point me to that info? Thank you!

Hmmm, how do I tell what my BIOS can or cannot handle?

You did not state is this is a laptop or a desktop, that information would help with the answer. If it is a desk top then you will have one of two types of hard drives the first being a IDE (ata) the second being a serial ata. They are easy to tell the difference one will be a thin red cable (serial ata) the other will use a wide gray cable. If you have serial ata it should be as easy as plugging in the new drive. If it is the IDE type then there could be some issues. You may need to Change a jumper in the back of the new hard drive to get it to work with the older computer. This is not difficult to do and the manual for the new hard drive will cover this info.

Hope this helps.

Based on the fact that your computer is a laptop and not a desktop, you are going to be limited by the size of the hard drive both physically and storage capacities available. Most laptop hard drives are 2.5 inch hard drives which will limit your capacity to about 250gigs for internal use. Accordingly you might consider either replacing your internal drive to one of these: http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec.hmx?scriteria=AA71088 , or, if you are simply looking for additional storage, go with an normal sized external storage drive that will offer you storage capacities up to 1 terabyte in size that can connect to your laptop via a USB connector. Due to the physical limitations of laptop hard drives being 2.5inch hard drives, the internal space does not permit production of storage capacities of those hard drives used in desk top computers, though any external hard drive will work with either desktop or laptop computers.
