Answer: If you read the local paper (SBNP) Tuesday, Aug 14th, Page A4: A Blue Heron flew into the wire at 10:47PM. I saw the flash with a friend (watching the meteor "sprinkle"), and noted the time and direction. It was the typical blue flash that would accompany a blowing or shorted power transformer, which has occurred many times in the past here. The first flash was at about 10:47, the second was roughly 30 seconds to a minute later. I am about 6 miles west. The second flash was probably the electrical curcuit trying to reset. There is a built-in delay that waits for the short to clear itself. The power then will shut down if it is still shorted. The result was a outage that affected 1,759 residents for several hours. The time, characteristic color, and direction perfectly fit the flashes we saw, and explain it exactly. Sorry, no UFOs, swamp gas, or meteor fireballs.

It was probably the International Space Station and the shuttle Endeavor, which moved across the sky close together Friday night just prior to docking.

I saw it too, saw something from the corner of my eye, looked out the window, and it was gone. Thought it could have been the space shuttle. It was big and bright, and high in the sky, moving along at a good speed.

aliens. is there anything they could have been watching? Perhaps the meteors? I didn't see it, but I wish I would see a U.F.O in the distance one day. Not up close and I never want to see a real alien though. Scary!
