If he wouldn't have been injured, how many homers would Junior Griffey have?

Everyone is on the right track. Griffey Jr. has 590 HR in 2343 games to date, or an average of 0.2518 per game. Now add in the injury factor. Lets say he would play 154 games a year for his career without injury (give some games off to rest) and to this point Griffey would have played 17 seasons X 154 games per = 2618. Add in the 111 played in 1994 and keep his 109 for this season so far and that is 2838. Multiply the 0.2518 by that and he would have around 715 HR right now. Of course, that is all going by career pace, which is never 100% accurate in determining final numbers.

*Option 2 - If you wish, you can consider if he never missed or sat out any game for his career. To date then, he would have played 17 full seasons, 112 games in 1994 and 117 so far in 2007, for a total of 2983 games. At the 0.2518 HR/game rate he would have a grand total of 751 HR.

Ken Griffey, Jr. has been and always will be my favorite baseball player and there is no doubt in my mind he would give Barry Bonds a run if he were healthy every season. I would guess he would be at low 700's had he not been injured so much since leaving Seattle. My estimate would be 690-715 or so. But with a couple good years he can still reach a nice career mark and maybe reach for 700.

He would probably have close to 700 by now if he hadn't gotten injured so much. I think he can still do it if he stays healthy and plays 4 or 5 more years. He'll probably pass Babe but I don't know if he can hit more than 750. Only time will tell.

Junior would be approaching 700 if he had stayed healthy during those steroid era years.

It's interesting -- steroids, we are told, promote a certain physiological fragility, an increased disposition for injury.

No one suspects Griffey of using steroids because he was injured so much during the steroid years. He gets a free pass from any allegations because he couldn't stay healthy.

Hmm.

I'm just sayin'.

In my opinion, if Jr. had stayed healthy, he and Barry would probably running neck & neck for the home run title. Maybe if Jr.plays a couple more years, he'll crack 700. He was well on track to being the greatest baseball player ever!! And without any accusations of misdeeds!!!

Considering all the games he's missed over the years, he would definitely be approaching 700 homers right now, if not surpassed it.

We know that he will have over 600. After that, everything is a guess. With his age, 700 is very possible. Unlikely, but possible. He has had a good year this year.

If a bullfrog had wings....!

He would probably have another 90...if you take out the injuries. BUt his style of play would not allow for him to not get injured, he played balls to the wall all the time...problem was that wall did not give as easily as it used to.
