My friends wife was having an affair 3 years ago i saw her in town with a guy in a compromising situation. With a heavy heart i chose not to say anything because of their kids. 3 years on they appear to be getting on great! did i do the right thing?

I could delay the truth if it helps, but not to make my friend think he is correct when he is very wrong. When push comes to shove, I will tell him, no matter if it hurts.

As a friend, it is the most difficult situation to be in. You only saw them once, I take it. Yes, you did the right thing. If they are getting on really well, why cause trouble?

It might be different if the affair was continuing, because it would be hurtful if good friends knew and said nothing.

I would have made it clear to my friends wife that I knew about their indiscretion, but you kept quiet and things are OK now so no harm has been done, I would tell my friend if they asked as I don't lie to my Friends, and if you told your friend they would be upset with you you have to remember that it is always the messenger that gets shot, if there relationship is back on track then let this matter lie, if I saw this behaviour again I would tell my friends wife that once is a mistake the second time is not, and would tell her that she has to tell her husband and work on her marriage, but there is no need to feel guilty you did what you thought was right for your friend and his family and things seem to have worked out for the best.

Not if the embarrassment was something along the lines of her skirt was tucked into her pants, I would tell her the truth
But if it isn't important that she knows something that will hurt her, I would lie ( well just not tell her)
Every situation should be weighed up and dealt with separately. That's what friends do for each other.

I'd say in this case that you didn't lie but kept your mouth shut. Which seemed to turn out as a good thing. If they get on very well with each other now, you shouldn't even think about it anymore. I think you did the right thing here.

No- a friend would tell the truth, no matter how much it hurt them! Depending on the situation they will thank you for being honest in the end

It rather depends on what I would be lying about, if its something trivial then probably yes. More serious matters require honesty, however painful or embarrassing it may be. My friends are the people I choose to have in my life and I trust them implicitly, as they do me.

It depends on what the lie is about. I`d put myslef in the situation and ask myself if i would want to be told it.

Yes you did, their relationship is nothing to do with anyone else and by interfering you may have made them confront issues they did no want to confront!
