I told my friends for a long time that street alcoholics and drug addicts have partied since they got the idea to party all the time to avoid being bored. But, if you are a little older you realize that avoiding being bored is the wrong way to go about it.
Avoidance rarely works unless it is the only tool to repair the peace! But that is rarely an individuals problem. The problem is thinking, trying and partying all the time to avoid boredom; this is a trap.
You can't avoid being bored by trying to be unbored in some repetitive way like drinking, snorting, blowing, shooting or screwing everything over and over again. That is a sure fire way to be bored.
Note: one screw may be heaven, but ten screws are just work woodwork.
The way out is to try a different path, and it that path is not working then ad another path to your routine. In other terms, be busy as apposed to being bored.
The busy, I have in mind, is something you have not tried and something that others may have suggested. Pick up beautiful rocks at the beach! Listen to the bottom of the wave while you are at the beach. Walk a mile in someone Else's shoes. Or volunteer to do something helping others that you never considered before.
I guarantee that you will not be bored if you just keep trying to find the habits and ways of doing things that are new to you and healthy for you.

yes, my husband (which was my high school sweetheart) died at the age of 42 in our living room from a massive heart attack. Our 8 year old son, not only pulled me out of the depths but also himself . Now, if an 8 year old can accomplish this, just think what us adults and young adults can do. He is now 18 and he is still my Rock of Gibraltor. I can never repay him for how he helped his mom.

yes, i think that a broken heart is one of lifes basic experiences, everyone goes or will go through it at some stage.
Noone was around to pull me out of the depressive depths of my broken heart/spirit for about 4 years, now things are moving forward slowly but surely, looking a whole lot better, and im looking forward to a happy, fulfilling future.
Yay for me, i do consider myself lucky :)

Thank you.... and I really miss my Grams today.... Second Mother's Day without her here on Earth... and I am 40..... My Mom is still here for another (she has cancer) and for that I am grateful it is a gift in itself... Plus, first thing this morning my 6 year old gave me the most beautiful card he colored himself... Yesterday, I had flowers delivered to me from my best friend... which opened my husband's eyes... It has been good and the day has just started... Peace.

Sorry to hear about your boredom .
Yeah . Twice . I only had myself to count on to get my act back together .
I did alright . Took a long time to bounce back .
My belief in God was a big help at that time , also .
