It's a Nissan 1989 B12. A noise comes from the hood when the car is running until it warms up. The sound comes from near the timing belt. It is a loud squeaking/squealing noise that stops after the car has been running for about 10 minutes. What do you think it is?

Could just be a cold accessorie belt. You may need a new one and/or a new belt tensioner also. If you dont have a tensioner, you may have to adjust the belt tension yourself. That should correct the problem

two good possibilities:

1) a loose belt
2) waterpump bearings go bad (they will squeel when they go bad)

always do the easiest and cheapest thing first: check the belts.

If that's not it, I think it is your water pump. Only way to fix that is to replace it. Nothing else will work than that, if that is it. Try that 2nd.

PS: do you have Air Conditioning? It could be that compressor. I hope not, that is very expensive.

Take to good repair shop, they will know.

i agree with the belting part -

u can try to DIY repair it.

u need :

1 - grease
2 - your hand
3 - your ear
4 - your foot

u do :

1 - stop the car and pop the hood
2 - put some grease beneath the belt (not to much and not to little
3 - start the car and let it run for 1 mins

repeat this steps till the sound gone...

(dont put to much grease)

Does the noise get louder when you put it in gear and drive. If so, it is the timing belt!!

Not a professional, so go to your local (Trustworthy) mechanic. Not like those idiots like jiffylube ...
