The total is $17.
Isn't this one of the first things you learn in school maths lessons?

This is pretty easy to figure out. 3% is 3/100, or .03.

Multiply $16.50 by .03. This would equal .495. $16.50 and add it to the $.495. This equals $16.995, or about $17.00.

Apply the percentage formula which is P=B*R.
P is for percentage($), B is for base ($) and R fo rate(%).
The problem is,
3% of $16.50

B=$16.50
R=3% or .03
P=?

P=B*R
=$16.50 * .03
=$.495 will be added to the original amount

B+P=$16.50 + $.495
=$16.995 Answer

10% = $1.65
1% = $0.165
3% = $0.495
You are asked for $16.50 + $0.495 = $16.995
$17 when rounded.
