looked like a wasp but had about a 4-5 inch stinger???

It's an ichneumon wasp, and it doesn't sting. What looks like a stinger is an ovipositor used to lay eggs in other insects. RScott

HUH!? 4-5inch stinger? How big was the bug? DAMN!

There are lots of kinds of wasps.

Some look like they have long stingers, but it is really and ovipositor. They use it to lay eggs, not to sting with.

Sounds really wierd to me.
