I liked the King Kong remake more than the original. And the new Hairspray was beyond amazing. What do you think are some of the best remakes?

I'm not usually a fan of remakes, but the new Dawn of the Dead was excellent. I watch it every time it's on. I also really liked the Jamie Lee Curtis / Lindsay Lohan (yeah, I know) remake of Freaky Friday.

I think that some of the best remakes would have to be The Omen. I saw the original and pretty much liked the story but found the movie really boring. I went to see the remake when it came out and it was way better then the original.

The Disney movie Flubber is also a really good remake. Original movie is called The Absent Minded Professor and is not as good.

The Mirrormax Movie Chicago is also a brilliant remake along with the remake of The Producers.

The Nutty Professor is also a really good remake and you can't go past Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The movie came out in 1990 and it was a complete box office flop until Joss Whedon turned it into the cult television series that it is today.

I just saw Hairspray and loved it too. It was way better than I remember the Ricki Lake version being (I noticed her in a cameo, though). Peter Jackson's Kong was a masterpiece in my eyes. That's my favorite Naomi Watts movie. She's so charming in it (though she also did a great job in The Ring).

Off the top of my head, the best remake I can recall is Dawn of the Dead. I'm very fond of George Romero's original campy version and all, but the film was really good when it was given a strictly serious tone and attempted to be as realistic as possible and set to a modern time that I am able to relate to more than the original since I'm only 20.

Update: Also, now that I think of it "The Ring" WAS a remake of the Japanese film "Ringu" and was a great film. The cinematography and polishing of the American version was awesome and the execution of the storyline for the American version was considerably better than the original in my opinion.

Dawn Of The Dead was good, War Of The Worlds, King Kong,
The Fog, The Pink Panther, Amityville Horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, House Of Wax, and that's it for now.
