A boy is in the outfield in a baseball game. The ball passes him, and he runs after it, only to see it fall into a hole. So the boy climbs down into the hole and descends into a chamber having a kindly, middle-aged man and a car in it. It becomes obvious that the man is supposed to be the devil, and the boy has entered hell, but there's nothing sinister about the scene. After a short conversation, the man hands the ball back to the boy, who then climbs back to the surface -- and finds that NO time has passed. He throws the ball in, in time to make the play.

It was from one of the Japanese car manufacturers. And it was VERY disappointing, because during MOST of the time frame during which it aired (maybe 7 or 8 years ago), the *ending* was **omitted**! And THAT was what gave the commercial it's really haunting boost. (I wish they'd run that one again -- with frequency -- and in its entirety.)

Of course I remember it. The commercial aired around the mid 90s. The commercial was for Nissan. They were sort of reinventing themselves as a car company. Their new slogan at the time was "Life is a Journey. Enjoy the Ride"

The guy in the hole/tree whatever it was was an old Asian looking guy from what I remember, kind of like Mr. Miyagi from Karate Kid.

But the most memorable thing about the commercial was the music. It sounded so much like Danny Elfman (think Nightmare Before Christmas and Edward Scissorhands). And I think I read or heard somewhere that it WAS Danny Elfman.

Anyway, it was a really good commercial. Oh, and it was less sinister than you described it. Hehe. It was more like a fantasy, like Alice in Wonderland.

Take a look at the link. The video is beyond crappy, but it will have to do.

Nope, never saw that one. What was the point (of the commercial)? What was the manufacture trying to say about the product? Makes no sense to me.
