definately if your baby is gassy, seems to have a stomach ache, even possibly vomiting...but i would be careful, it is less of a chance for an infant to become lactose intolerant. but it is common for infants to have a milk allergy which is caused from bein allergic to the milk's proteins... lactose intolerance is the inability to breakdown the lactose(sugar) in milk. i would def go get your baby to their doctor as soon as possible...
symptoms of a milk allergy:
----------------------------------------
excessive fussiness or irritability
crampy abdominal pain, vomiting, or diarrhea
spots or streaks of blood or mucus in stools
skin rash
recurrent wheezing, cough, stuffy or runny nose, colds, or sinusitis
failure to thrive (poor weight gain and growth)
symptoms of lactose intolerance:
------------------------------------------------
Bloating.
Pain or cramps in the lower belly.
Gurgling or rumbling sounds in the lower belly.
Gas.
Loose stools or diarrhea. Sometimes the stools are foamy.
Throwing up.
HOPES THIS HELPS!!!!

Ugh! I remember those days. Two of my three children were lactose intolerant. The oldest outgrew it well after age 4. The other one was over it by 18 months.
Symptoms. Well, the crying is a BIG clue. Maybe crying isn't the right word. Screaming is more like it. Screaming after each bottle. Screaming and gas. Screaming that will not stop. Squirming and screaming at the same time. Gas, gas, gas. More screaming.
Unfortunately, the screaming and gas also apply to other conditions. Try the soy or lactose-free formula for two weeks. If the symptoms go away, then you'll know. If not, call the Dr. and try something else. Things like this are usually solved by trial and error and the elimination of variables.
Good luck.

Figuring out my daughter was lactose intolerant changed my life. She was 4 weeks old before we figured it out. She was breastfeeding (100% lactose by the way) and would start crying a couple minutes after eating, had terrible gas, was fussy all the time, spit up A LOT, and had a terrible time sleeping. One desperate night, I tried soy formula and she slept for 3 hours straight which was truly miraculous for her at that time. I researched soy and found it really wasn't what I wanted to use and besides it stinks really bad. So we tried the Enfamil Lactofree. Within a day she was a totally different baby. No more crying during feedings, much less gas, and sleeping much better. At 4 months, we tried increasing the lactose to the Enfamil Gentlease, but the problems returned. She's still on lactose free although she uses the Wal Mart brand now as it doesn't constipate her as much as Enfamil. Most babies eventually grow out of the lactose intolerance and can be reintroduced to it around 6 months. Oh and no matter what I said, my doctor never thought lactose free would solve anything, but it did. Hope that helped.

Some lactose intolerant babies can eat cheese, and yogert.
Cheese might be a bit strong for a 11 month old.
Try some yougert. Nothing too sweet.
Your doctor can also do a test to see if it is lactose problem.
Even a non lactose child eating too young can get diarrhea
All babies are different

Lactose intolerance in an infant is very very rare. They can, however, be allergic to the proteins in cow's milk. Which they can get from fake milk, or from a mother who drinks cow's milk and breastfeeds.

The best way to tell is to remove all dairy from the diet and see if the baby's mood improves, gas goes away and rashes disappear.

I would guess at a rash. But I know they will barf up their
milk if it doesn't agree with them and have to use other means. Maybe goats milk or soy milk as a substitute?

i am lactose.....and i usually can tell if my stomach hurts right after, so i would say if he begins crying, or if he needs to use the facilities, and really if you want to know all you have to do is give him some regular milk and wait a couple of minutes and if something happens then you will know.....
