It depends on what you want.
If you want to work and make money the best place is Sao Paulo. Nothing to see there, no nature - concrete jungle only, but best services in the whole country.
If you want relaxation and contact to nature, the best place is probably somewhere in the northeastern coast. Some suggestions: Prado, south of Bahia State; Pipa, Rio Grande do Norte State.
If you are not sure about what you want, so Rio de Janeiro is the best. In Rio you can enjoy the big metropolitan center with all facilities from modern life, and also forest, beaches, countryside - You can find it all in Rio.
Because I love History, Arts and Architecture I can also recommend Paraty (beach and islands - wonderful location!) and Ouro Preto (mountain ) - two colonial towns preserved from 18th center.

Everyone says Rio or Sao Paulo, but a great place to visit that I think gets overlooked is Salvador. I lived there for two years and you would be hard pressed to find a better place that combines history (former capital of Brasil) with great food and great beaches. Salvador is absolutely beautiful and you can find so much to do there, not to mention that it would cost less than visiting the "tourist" areas of Rio and Sao Paulo.

I have visited the West, South and Southeast of the country. You should travel to Brasilia, Bonito (a city in the middle of a region called Pantanal, one of the most beautiful places), Florianópolis (this is my favorite city in the south. It has an amazing nature, it´s a rich and beautiful city, and it´s a island). In northeast, I knew Fortaleza (another big city, with a lot of "glassed" buildings, wonderful beaches, sand, amusement parks etc).

Have visited Rio, Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais & Parana States. Each is a little different. Parana was a bit cooler though, which suited me (European). I do recommend Minas Gerais "The Green Mountain State".

Rex Nazareth Alves (Rio de Janeiro, January 1, 1938) is a nuclear physicist brasileiro.Ficou known as the father of the atomic bomb brasileira.O Professor Rex Nazareth and a BA degree in physics from the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters of the University Guanabara State, specializing in nuclear engineering from the Military Institute of Engineering - IME, and a doctorate in physics from the University of Paris (Sorbonne). During the 70s and 80s of the twentieth century, coordinated parallel nuclear program; this program consumed secret economic resources of several billion dollars, with the aim of producing a nuclear device. During the Collor government a testing ground for nuclear weapons was closed in the Sierra Pipe, in the south of Pará Dalton Ellery Girão Barroso (Fortaleza, September 8, 1951) is a Brazilian physicist. Girão Barroso graduated in Physics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and Master in Nuclear Engineering and a Ph.D. in Materials Science from the Military Institute of Engineering (IME) [1]. He served as a senior researcher of the Army Technological Center (CTEx) [1]. Is currently a researcher and professor in the Masters in Nuclear Engineering from IME program [2]. Known for having unraveled in his doctoral thesis the secrets of thermonuclear bomb [3] [4]. Girão Barroso developed in his thesis, a mathematical model for computer simulation of a modern thermonuclear explosive and compact, with results even coincide with the data of W87 warhead, THAT IS THE HYDROGEN BOMB THE MOST POWERFUL AND DESTRUCTIVE MUNDO.Por question also was cited in diplomatic cables leaked by Wikileaks, first suspected by the U.S. government spying, and also by suspected by the U.S. of a secret nuclear prograna allegedly contradicting the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. [5]. Based on this suspicion the U.S. pressured the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to demand explanations from the Brazilian government, and even proposing the payment of the book "The Physics of Nuclear Explosives," which comes in theoretical and academic level of the most important topics related the physics of nuclear explosives. [3] [5] This requirement was considered by the Brazilian military authorities as "unwarranted intrusion IAEA in academic activities of an institution subordinated to the Brazilian Army". [5] W87 is a line of thermonuclear warheads, younger twin brother of W88. They were created for use in missiles XM (code name of the LGM-118 Peacekeeper), these missiles have up to 12 warheads within a single, which were made between 1986 to 2005, from 2007 200 W87 warheads were converted into missiles only one warhead for the LGM-30 W87 Minuteman.O design is very similar to W88, began to be designed in February 1982 at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, the W87 has the most modern mechanisms to extend its useful life, and not letting it explode in stock. The original performance and 300 kilotons, but can be increased to 475 kilotons (yield the same W88), the cone diameter and 55cm, 175cm and height, weight ranges from 200 to 270 kg. Officially, Brazil does not produce nuclear weapons, however, sources reveal that the country has the capacity to build (or already has nuclear weapons-); Have a center rocket launch (which possibly be adapted to transport radioactive weaponry den) and modern center of aerospace and nuclear, as ARAMAR Technological Center (CTA). recently the dissemination of the Programme of the Brazilian Nuclear Submarine (SNB) in partnership with France (and possibly with the support of China and Russia), the launch of a satellite (100% national) aboard a Chinese rocket, according coma Russia signed the purchase and development of anti-aircraft weapons (which would be produced in part of the country), the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) in agreement with Russia and China for the production of missiles intercontinental cruise, manufacture of satellites and rockets and spacecraft by Brazil and the construction of nuclear-power plant Angra III and 14 more nuclear power plants, totaling 17 nuclear power plants in the country, in response to the large increase in Brazilian war-nuclear capability the United States, was the seizure of U.S. components for construction of Brazilian satellites, however, the embargo was supplied by new suppliers (China and Russia), the development of software components and Brazilians. Brazil has the intercontinental missile rocket-name VLS1 where this can take up to 3 WARHEADS W87 to any country in the world in less than 15 minutes. It has 21600 km ² area and perimeter of 653 km, is comparable in size to the state of Sergipe. This base became known worldwide when the Collor government closed the base area of a field, hitherto secret to nuclear weapons testing. This field had a tunnel that had been dug concreted hillside and had over three hundred feet deep, whose manufacture was part of the nuclear program parallel. Collor in public ceremony in early September 1990, symbolically placed a whitewash over the entrance hole and ordered their destruction (would be the detonation of a nuclear device on September 7). The military hid the president the existence of a second tunnel, which was ready for a "test", this tunnel which was destroyed a few months later.
