If by "hicks" you mean people who live in the country, then you need to understand that a truck is a utility vehicle for those of us who live in the country. When there's an ice storm or a snow storm, a truck is high enough to get through rough spots. If a road washes out, and that's the only way to get to town, a truck can make it through when a car cannot. Many trucks have four wheel drive. Trucks can tow trailers for hauling cars or tractors. Trailers for hauling livestock to sell, or horses for pleasure or rodeos (where a lot of money can be made).
Most of the "dumb hicks" that you're talking about probably know more about engines (gas and diesel), gear ratios, how to balance loads, tie knots, use slip hooks or grab hooks, etc.. They may know better than you how to drive a stick, how to keep from getting stuck in the mud, or how to get out. They'll know how to determine if a load (including trailer) is too heavy for a truck. They'll know how to properly balance a load so it isn't too far back, or improperly balanced over the axles. They'll know about engine sizes and how to get the most performance out of their vehicle.
Assembly line workers probably would brag, if they were the one person in the plant to get the newest machine that has all the trick features.

There are a lot of those assembly line workers that do modify their cars and they are proud of them and show them off.
We had a car show out at the truck plant one year for the employees cars. I couldn't believe all the cool cars that these guys own. There were Shelby's, 55 T-Birds, 34 sedans, coupes, and roadsters too. These were all show cars.
To these guys, it is a work of art, it is pride of building something. Some people paint a picture, and some people will build a car. Pride of craftsmanship. Something that more people need to have now days. A little pride in their work.

You're a jackass. The automobile is one of few material things in life that truly matter. Now, a dumb hick being proud of their stock-engined gutless 78 Chevy pickup with a 12 inch lift certainly is stupid, but there are just as many people out there with tastefully modded cars who deserve to be proud of them.
Now go put on your home made straw sandals and play with your organic free range pet chickens.

Well, I sold my car and bought a Bicycle. I will brag about it not using gas and no insurance every month. Ha! But, it just a matter of opinion I guess. If that make a person happy then let them enjoy.
I tell a story. A friend of mine had a car years ago. It was his pride and joy. He hand wash and wax that car every Friday. After about a year he got saying it did not look like it shine as when he got it. Another friend got looking and he had waxed that car down to the primer. Ha! We were ROFL, it just killed him.

It's funny when people say a car is a car and yet they drive a BMW or Toyota etc. If a car is a car then why didn't you just buy a Hyundai or Kia or even a little Geo Metro?

dude, get a grip. cars are the biggest profit in tha world.
there are car shows, conventions, concepts. i didnt know people like you existed. what you said is crazy! cars are beutiful pieces of work built with competittive styling, speed, good looks, and the sound of a powerful engine is too much to take. are you amish or something because who wouldnt take pride in their car? did u know that 98% of the people you will meet in life will never see your home but will see your car. now would you rather be cruising in something nice and aggressive like a lamborghini, or ferrari, or would you like everyone and all tha hot chicks to be dissapointed when they see thatr piece of **** ford pinto of your rollin its *** down tha road? what you fail to understand is whether you like it or not
your car represents you in the general public. dude cars are more than machines, they are trophys, and prized possesions. dude everyone is suppossed to have a bond with their car, its life. i have put some websites here so you can look at some freakin irressistable cars. but dude seriously think about it, cars are on tv, movies, radio, media, franchises, sports, marketing, entertainment, and life.

I imagine you as one of the guys from 'Revenge Of The Nerds' that talks with a lisp and takes a taxi or an old Schwinn to work at the library. Your 37-40 years old and live with your mom who only drives when it's time for your doctors appointment.
Am I close?

Hater....
Everyone has something they love why not cars/trucks? Your vehicle represents your personality when you customize it. If you like your car who gives a f*ck about what everyone else thinks. No ones hating on you about the type of crap that you like don't judge others so easily.
