There was a leak in my car and I had to get it back to my place. I sat in a car with engine coolant fumes for several hours. I have no symptoms and I feel fine, but should I go get checked out by a doctor?

BTW, is that stuff dangerous to inhale?

The car has a leaking heater core most likely. Yes it is bad to breate the fumes. I doubt if it did you any harm but I wouldn't want to do it again. good luck.

If the fumes were strong enough that the air looked foggy, you should call poison control for their input on the matter. If your windows were down and you could smell the coolant but the fumes weren't visible in the air then I personally wouldn't worry about it.

"This product may be considered a low health hazard unless inhaled in very high concentrations. Acute and chronic overexposures may be irritating to the respiratory tract. Symptoms of overexposure include respiratory tract irritation, headache, drowsiness and narcosis."

If you drank any amount of it then poison control should be contacted immediately

the main substance in the coolant gets converted to oxalic acid in your body which is pretty bad if you get enough of it. There are no chronic effects though from it, if you are not dead now or feeling really bad then you will be ok. Don't inhale anymore and especially don't drink it.
