Does it really make a difference when you wash in cold or hot water? I know hot water makes things shrink, so i mainly stick to cold water, but is there anything i SHOULDNT wash in cold water? Or is there a reason i should? And also, i know to seperate darks and lights, but does it really make a difference if its already been washed (the bleeding)?

washing n cold water is prob best methos because it saves on energy. it uses a lot of energy to wash in hot water and this doesnt seem to have much benifit. warm water is best used than hot water and this is mainly for tough stains like grease etc. seperate the whites from darks, you dont really need to worry about it too much esp if you have washed before, but dont bother washing unless you have a full load, this just wastes water.

You can't go wrong with washing with cold water. That was the only way to wash clothes at one time. The only difference is with dry clean only clothing. The water could damage the material. If you are worried about clothes bleeding, like say a red shirt or cloth, try this. If you have a cloth or garment that you are afraid of it bleeding wash it by itself. On some washcloths and other clothing, I've noticed that they tell you to wash by itself before using or wearing. This is to lessen the chance of it bleeding. I've had a red towel set that I could put in a sink of water and watch the dye coming off of it and into the water. Once it was washed once or twice you shouldn't have to worry about it bleeding because the excess dye will have washed away. If you are still skeptical, then wash it by itself and away from clothing that would be most affected.

We wash the white underwear in hot water. Most of the rest is washed in cold. We don't mix the colored with the whites. Even though they have been washed before there is still a chance that they will still bleed. good luck.

Your true WHITES (like socks, handkerchiefs, underwer, undershirts etc)should be the only thing you wash in HOT
Everything else should be washed in cold, this not only prevents bleeding, but also fading and will help your clothes to last longer.

If you are washing darks with lights (like blacks with pinks or yellows.. it causes your colors to fade and get dingey.. this is why it is best to separates colors like darks from lights from whites.. you can still combine these colors if you put a dye magnet in your washer (found in laundry section at store) this will catch the colors in the water and keep them form your clothes and help prevent the cross contamination of colors..

Always wash colored clothes in cold water so the color will not fade. Sure it makes a difference. If you toss in a pair of tan khaki pants with your blue jeans, just the fabrics rubbing together will make your khaki pants dingy. They say to wash white things in warm or hot water to make them remain white. While this makes sense, you can add Arm and Hammer Washing Soda to your detergent and wash in cool to warm to keep things white.

When you want to make sure fabrics bleed use warm water. Once it has bled, you can use cold again. Cold saves energy.
When dealing with blood, ink, or grass stains wash with cold water because warm or hot water will set the stain. With weird stains, wash in cold just in case because you don't know what it is.
When dealing with other bodily fluids, such as saliva or others, use warm water to help dissolve it.
Hot is for whites. You can use hot water when washing with bleach too, because bleach is for whites (you can use it for color bleach too i presume).
