My 97 does the same thing.

I usually can get the key out by turning the IGN back to run and jiggling the gear shifter a couple times. At least for my Grand Prix it's more just an annoyance than anything that I feel I HAVE to fix now.

The GM Mechanic knows exactly what the problem is. There is a trick though and I did this:

I just carried a ball point pen taken apart. I used a G-2 pen or a paper clip will work also. There is a small access hole underneath your ignition switch on your steering column. It should have a plastic piece that is covering it, but it pops right out. Stick either the paper clip or ball point pen up in the hole and it releases your keys from the ignition.

Usually you can tell if your keys are going to stick if you don't here a click when you put your car into park and release the brakes.

This is what I did with my car until I traded it in on a newer grand prix.....lol

Definitely Linkage adjustment. I had this happen with my grand prix after I had a transmission put in. Took it back to the shop and with a little adjusting they fixed it.

You either have had a transmission linkage that has gone out of adjustment or the switch that engages the solenoid for the ignition cylinder is not working. You will have to get it apart, the shifter and the column covers to detemine what has happened. You can flick the solenoid by had to see if that is what is wrong. Good luck.
