A root canal last year. Just ghastly, and it was my own fault.
About eight years ago I had a filling fall out. Didn't do anything about it except keep it clean and chew on the other side of my mouth. [I was, frankly, drinking heavily, and not dealing well with life.] Then the tooth finally cracked, and I knew it was time to deal with this.
The dentist said the nerve must be dead if I wasn't feeling any pain [and indeed I felt no pain.] But as it turned out, there was some infection down there and some swelling. When he tried to numb the area with novocaine, it didn't work properly. He shot me five times [all from the sides], but then when he started to go down inside with the brushes to start cleaning everything out, I nearly screamed. He finally concluded that he simply had to get the needle down into the abcess in order to drop some novocaine down there. He said it was vital, and forewarned me that the swelling would mean the sides of the needle would rub against flesh, but that it would only be ten seconds. So I grabbed the sides of the chair and dug my feet in, and when he went in it was just blinding agony. When he finally pulled the needle out, the pain stopped and I could feel the numbness finally starting. I also realized I was covered in sweat, and that I had literally burst into tears.
The rest of the procedure went fairly smoothly, but towards the end the novocaine started to wear off and the pain started again. My mouth was full of things and I couldn't talk, but when he said it was nearly 5:30 and they would need to bring me back in to finish, I grabbed his arm and vehemently shook my head "no!" He asked if I meant he should finish, and I nodded "yes," so he did. The last five minutes were quite painful, but the in was all over and he had the temporary crown on and sealed.
When everything was out of my mouth, he asked why I wanted him to continue. I told him that if he didn't finish, I would never, ever, ever have come back for the follow-up appointment, because the dread of more pain would have been just too much to bear.
Bar none, that was the worst two hours of my life. I'm surprised I didn't have a heart attack. And rest assured, I'm being much more responsible when it comes to my dental health.

There have been several episodes of excruciating pain. I still can't decide which one was the worst.
1) Broadsided by a speeding car while crossing a highway on a bicycle.
2) Sprained back, followed by years of sciatica.
3) TWO emergency C-sections.
4) My last miscarriage.

Having a broken wrist and then 4 weeks when I have been given the solid on 3 firecrackers have been lit and filled down the solid. sort 2 could be as quickly as I had appenacitist. that's a organ you have and something is going incorrect in there and if it bursts you die. Mine grew to become into 14 hours from bursting and it would purely spark off surges of discomfort that would desire to knock me to the floor.

I crashed my bike into a tree at 50 mph and flipped over the handlebars and crushed my right foot. I had to have two surgeries to pin the bones back together.
Other than that, was my first insulin shot, not because it was unbearably painful but because I knew I had to do it everyday for the rest of my life.

Throbbing & swelling of my big toe for days, before I lost the nail (I dropped a large can of stewed tomatoes on it from a top shelf in the pantry..). Next is an enema at the hospital, but that's another story & type of pain altogether.....

Fell off my bike, fell down the stairs, fell into a bin (don't know exactly how that happened, but it did). Fell down some more stairs, walked into a wall, fell down a drain, tripped over a mat & went flying down the stairs (messed up my knee (in college by the way) had to have stitches, a brace & crutches)
