I've replaced most of the light bulbs in my house with CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Lights). You can't use them outside, and they aren't recommended for any place around water. So, I didn't put them in the bathrooms. They are more energy efficient than incandescent lights, or halogens.
I bought the reuseable grocery bags. So, I won't be bringing home all those plastic bags.
I do have a compost bin. I'm not really good about using it, but I try.
I try to buy my produce from local growers, or grow my own in my raised garden beds.
I mulch cut my yard. I don't bag up grass clippings and put them out for trash pick up.
The amount of water in the washer is appropriate for the amount of clothes in there, and I try to only do full loads.
I am not good about putting out things for recycling. I've had my recyle bins stolen three times, and I got tired of having to replace them. I'd like to go back to it, but apparently my neighbors are not the most honest people around.
I turn off the PC and the television when I'm done. I do not turn them off from the surge protector strip like is recommended. I live in a high lightning hit area, and the surge protector has to be "on" to protect the equipment.
I bought a small convection counter top oven, so I'm not using the regular oven for cooking small things.
I try to reuse/repurpose all those plastic containers. I reuse some of the metal ones too.
I recaulked all my windows. Removed the extra stuff from my car. I had siding put on the house to improve it's energy efficiency, and I'm having more insulation put in this fall. I have rain barrels that I use for watering my garden with.
Those are the basics of what I do. I try to limit my trips. I make sure I do several things in the same area on the same trip.
Will it help the environment? I hope so. If it doesn't at least I feel like I'm trying.

Its doing the "right thing" and using energy efficient, recyclable, biodegradable what nots and using renewable sources of energy. Really theres no point, I mean with the current trend the unrefined fuel used in ships that turn the gears of commerce and the amount of fuel used in the military and on commercial and non commercial airlines and also the music industry, the mercury in the backlights of non recyclable lcd screens and the lead based solder and the built in obscelecence nature of most consumer electronics both you and I use on a day to day basis, all non recyclable. Also the nature of which our bodies are disposed as well in an airtight environment where only microbes can escape, giving no nutrients back to mother nature and when we're cremated and spread you have the urn and also mostly all the nutrients are burnt up. So might as well just do as you please since you wont be around to see the consequences of your actions and neither will most of us, unless some radical cure to cancer is made and we are kicking around for a lot longer than we should. The dust will win over and then nothing will matter, after we're gone the universe won't even hiccup at the fact we're no longer around. As that Beatles song goes; "obladi oblada live goes on" and yes my friends, it does.

Going green to me is recycling. Since I started doing so, I have one bag of trash a month. I do not have to pay a trash service. You can recycle anything. Of course one bag of trash a week means not everything. I cannot find out where to recycle sulifane, or styrafoam. All my 2 day old left overs go into the yard for whomever dare eats it and everything else gets reused. You have to wash them out very good, glass, aluminum, tin, plastic especially, there is a ton of it, cardboard, paper including magazines, phonebooks, newspaper, junk mail shred it, office paper ect. I also email big company that do not use recycled items or items that are hard to find a place that recycles them. And I write down people liscence that litter, or cars the emit tons of smoke. Im really looking forward to seeing Leonardo Dicaprio's movie about the environment. Arent you?

it's a very general term that means helping the environment, or at least hurting it less, or in some way being aware of it. it varies from taking the bus to work to only watering your grass at night, and everything in between.

Going green is buying $15,000 solar panels for your roof, driving a hybrid (or electric car) replacing your lights with those crappy fluorescent ones, and stop breathing. Its all to cut carbon emmissions, but the only thing I can afford are those stupid lightbulbs. All I want to see is the chart that shows that we have cut carbon emmissions down, even if its a decrease by 0.01

Some of us orcs were born green and, let us assure you, it's not easy. Since we orcs love trashing the environment, we don't see how it makes any difference one way or another.
