I have one son , and when he was young I did have a male babysitter for him most of the time.
My son liked the girl babysitters because thy where pretty.lol
but he liked the male babysitter because thy would do guy things with him like play ball , find bugs, teach him how to Wiesel at girl..lol
thy where both responsible babysitters and I trust them both with my son..
But I think little girl just feel more comfortable with a female babysitter.

As a male, in my own experience the only kids I ever gave a damn about were my own. Other kids were just annoying or something to be ignored. Any male that actually wants to watch kids to earn a living is a bit weird in my opinion.
My wife and I hired a in-home babysitter for a while before she quit work for good. We interviewed only female child development majors at the university. We did a trial run with each of the final three possibles to see how they structured the day and interacted with my daughter. The final choice was so good that when she finally left school to get a job in another state, my wife became a stay at home mom rather than trying to find another sitter...

I was a sole parent and raised my son from birth. Now he is 23, married and has bought a house. My son never ate a meal out of a jar or can until a women was on the scene. Is it not as quick to peel a banana and mash it with a fork than to open a jar. Try stewing an apple in the same water that you would have warmed up a jar. Paedophiles can be female too, they are just more unlikely to be reported by victims or their families. The stats in Canada are obviously only from the reported cases. Due to lack of reporting this is the best we have. ~~It still proves that Being perverted, sick, twisted is just a human trait and not a gender issue.~~

If I know the sitter it does not matter whether they are male or female as long as they know what to do and take good care of the kids its really all that matters..and if the kids like the sitter that is a big plus... altho there are some things I would not ask a male sitter to do.. such as bath time etc..
Otherwise either is fine..
Since my kids are grown now.. I remember having both male and female sitters at times and never had a problem with either...

__If i have all boys i would perfer a boy babysitter.
__if i had all girls i would perfer a girl babysitter.
__If i had a mixture of boys and girls i would base my decision on the sex of my oldest child.
I dont discriminate cause the fact of the matter is kids will listen to a man faster then they will a woman because men are the stern ones. Then the woman has what you call maternal instincts so either is good. Hiring the babysitter isnt about the sex it should be based on their personality and experience. Its hard to seperate the perverts now and days so It would make me more comfortable as a parent with these matchups.

It would be nice and noble not to be sexist and hire without considering the gender, but if you are uncomfortable with a certain gender it shouldn't matter what sort of image you are trying to uphold. You are the one hiring, it's your money and your children, and it should ultimately be your decision what you think is safest and most comfortable. In the end, perhaps good experience and references can decide for you.
Better yet, consider cameras and making the care giver watch them in your home. A babysitter/child care provider knows that, especially these days, they aren't trustworthy from the beginning. I looked up and saw a camera recording me once. What could I do? I waved.

I do have kids...I have four and really don't matter as long as I know I can trust the person with my kids .....although I do prefer a female because 3 of my kids are girls. By men I mean my brother or father or father in law or other male family members depends on who they are anyone other then that NO! I have a hard time even trusting females I have to know the person very well before I let them watch my kids.
I won't work because I don't even trust my kids in daycare I am scared to death of someone hurting my kids. I rather watch them myself.

when I was little I can only remember my parents hiring female babysitters, but my little brother had a male nanny for like 3 years.

If he's cute and can fix everything my husband never seems to get around to doing.....
Honestly yes! My kids summer camp has alot of high school male leaders and they are much more active and willing to actually play with the kids and do kid things (puzzles, games, sports)ect. The girl leaders (again teenage girls) just sit around talking as the kids play and someones phone is always ringing. I would be cautious with older males or if I had babies but for elementary age kids for sure.
