Eh? People need authorities. The Queen is like a security blanket.
Also, who would be as ripe a target for all the Brit rag mags?
Got pics of the Queen Mum's bum? Whee!

I think the UK would be better off if the Monarchy were to retake some power from Parliament. Parliament is usually run by some demagogue such as Tony Blair (Brits call him Tony Bliar). It is hard to believe that even a bad monarch would loot a country for their own benefit to the extremes that elected politicians loot the country.

Because it is too deeply embedded.
It's strange that British soldiers are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan so that those countries can elect their own Head of State when the same basic right is denied to the British people.
If the Queen is the best person for the job why not have an election and test that theory in a democratic way.

The monarchy holds no political power anymore. Aside from that, the capital collected by the Dutchies has been used for the good of the UK and its citizens.

I thought the monarchy was nothing more than a collection of figure heads and good will ambassadors?

Because there's no point. They have no power and do not draw much in the way of money. In fact, their properties earn much more money for the state than they are paid.

It is a tradition they appreciate that brings in tourists. Why do we spend money to preserve historical sites? It is something we feel is worth spending the money to preserve.
