I think what he's done is horrible, and I don't think the two are comparable. BUT a couple friends brought it up with me, I found it interesting, what do you think about the comparison of the way we treat livestock for food and the way Mike Vick treated his pits?

We are not forcing our livestock to fight for money and sport. Plain and simple. Or for entertainment, We are usuing them for food. And we don't tourture them for fun.

Well, we slaughter cow, pigs, chickens etc., for consumption purposes. Now, if your friends are counting eating meat as cruelty, then they are probably vegetarians and are biased. There is nothing wrong or immoral about humans eating meat; how else would have we evolved? Now, I'm not saying that there aren't any producers of meat that treat the animals bad, but it is not wide spread and it is not a standard in the meat production industry. Most animals are treated pretty well up until they are slaughtered, but they live a nice comfortable life in the meanwhile. What Vick allegedly did was for his own sick and demented views of what entertainment is.

How are pigs and cows tortured daily? They are fed, and cared for up until the day they are slaughtered for food, not ENTERTAINMENT. They are not forced to fight another deadly animal and suffer fights that last HOURS. There are not pet cows and pigs thrown into a cage with killer cows and pigs to be mutilated and murdered to train them for killing.

I do agree, I wish I had the fortitude to become a vegetarian. I am working on it. I have dropped lamb, veal and liver from my menu years ago. I would prefer that NO animal is slaughtered.

But you cannot compare what goes on in dogfighting rings to the treatment of pigs and cows. Maybe you are not aware of all the practices that are prevalent with dogfighting trainers, you should research some of it. Maybe it will help you understand why dogfighting is so abhorred amongst compassionate Americans.

Your friends came up with a good point. But, what happens to tortured livestock? They're sent to factories where they are processed into the food we buy at supermarkets. What happens to dogs that die in dog fights or being raised to dog fight? Nothing. They're just buried in the backyard and left there.

In nature, animals kill other animals for food. Some animals torture their prey, like boa constrictors that squeeze until they're out of breath. That's supposedly what some people do to livestock. They know it's wrong, but at least its for a purpose. Dogs killing other dogs serve no purpose to them, only their owners that make money.

Do I think Vick did it? I'm not sure, but he's liable for some amount of punishment. It's his house for crying out loud. So, he's probably guilty for something.

Vick's, or any dog fighter's. treatment of dogs is far worse than the teatment of livestock by some farmers because the death of the dogs serves no purpose, but the livestock's death serves as food for us.

What an impressive question! I study the solutions earlier my answer. you will discover that we've grown right into a rustic of narrow minded human beings. We shrug at different countries and their cultures. it is the reason we are at conflict with yet another united states. We purely won't be able to settle for what or how others do or sense. I even have traveled the worldwide, and each united states I continuously had to consume what "the" human beings ate. bugs, donkey, horse, cat, kangaroo, camel, organ meat, etc. I figured in the event that they have been sort adequate to question me into their residences, I actual wasn't going to coach my nostril up and say something silly to embarrass my host or their united states. now and lower back i stumbled on it rather scrumptious, different situations I had subject swallowing because of the fact of what it grew to become into. Elephant organs are my least fashionable. Cat is a splash salty purely like all different carnivores, and canine is stringy and salty. yet like I mentioned, an excellent sort of those dishes have been arranged to feed a relatives, to not be repulsive to me. So do not choose others by utilising what they consume or do not consume. do exactly your ingredient and enable them to do theirs. If it have been ideal in this united states, and there grew to become right into a industry for it, then why don't you? In countries the place that's appropriate, you're able to purchase them at their markets.

Because we don't torture pigs and cows for food. Most food and livestock growers, when they kill animals for food, make the death as quick and painless as possible. The dogs that go through dog fights were tortured, beaten, physically modified to fight better, and when they didn't perform they were killed in extremely cruel ways. It's one thing to kill and animal, but to violently change an animal's instinct from mild-mannered house pet to killing machine is downright sadistic.

Please don't compare dog fighting to the food industry. The comparison isn't even close.

first of all animals naturally fight each other so do humans. we bet on the UFC and boxing and sometimes those guys get hurt pretty bad but we don't kill them because they are not harmful. Pit bulls are dangerous animals would someone adopt a pit bull that has been raised for fighting. Some pit bulls that are not raised for fighting are dangerous anyways. I don't support it in anyway. but killing is killing whether you shoot it hang it fry it . all killing ends a life. a cow in some countries is considered sacred. So who made us judge on what we eat. Before the discovery of fire humans did not eat animals. So if the dog meat was imported for food would that make it OK because some countries eat dog meat.

There is never going to be a perfect way to mass produce meat. But it is done as humanely as possible.

Vick alledgedly mistreated dogs beating them and worse to Make them mean dogs. If the dogs didn't win a fight match it was drown, electrocuted or strangeled.

That's not humane!

Queen Pink Cat hit the nail on the head.

People (usually) slaughter cows and pigs for food, Vick (allegedly) did this for his own sick, twisted entertainment.

People tend to rationalize the cruelty to livestock, because they like to eat meat. On a moral and ethical level, there is very little difference between me eating a steak, and Vick sanctioning dog fights. On the other hand, steak is legal, and very tasty. Dog fighting is neither.
